Mark and Matthew record Jesus speaking Aramiac from the cross:
And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Mark 15:34 ESV)
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46 ESV)
All other times they record Jesus words using the Greek language. It is accepted that Aramaic was the language Jesus spoke. However, it is obvious that many, if not all of the Apostles were able to communicate in both Aramaic and Greek (and probably knew Latin). So it seems likely that Jesus also was able to speak in both Aramaic and Greek.
Mark and Matthew are purposeful to make the point that when Jesus quoted Psalm 22 He used Aramaic. Consequently they are purposeful to exclude any possible confusion or claim that Jesus quoted the Greek translation of the Psalm, which in the Septuagint is significantly different at that point: ὁ θεὸς ὁ θεός μου πρόσχες μοι (O God, my God, take heed to me). Quoting the Greek lacks the personal pronoun at the beginning and would also have Jesus asking God to take heed of Him, something the Aramaic precludes.
While the use of the Aramaic quotation can be seen as purposeful to ensure Jesus correctly quotes the Psalm, it also gives reason to question the assertion that all of the other sayings of Jesus were exclusively spoken in Aramaic and translated into Greek.
What is the evidence Jesus spoke exclusively in Aramaic and never used the Greek language?

I have. It gives a better understanding than you could possibly get from an hour a week in church. Pastors, just like the Pharisees, often teach their own interpretations of the truth, rather than the truth itself. The existence of various denominations is evidence that man is frequently wrong when it comes to the word of God. Every denomination believes that their truth is the only truth. That is simply not possible. There is only one truth, and it was given to us in His word.
Karen Lucas
You’re right. I see the same thing. I have. My father has read it through yearly since about 20 years before I was born. I believe it is important to see the whole story unfold in context and in the order that the early church canonized it. In NC, our IPHC ministerial credentialing board will not consider a ministerial candidate unless they have completed reading the Bible from cover to cover BEFORE they sit before the examining committee. I am ashamed to say that I did not read it through until I was in my thirties. It did give me greater understanding and appreciation for the heart of God and the scriptures He has entrusted us with.

Interesting question. I read Luke 14:33 last year in ESV “renounce” and swore somebody stuck that in there when I wasn’t looking
Varnel Watson
Some preachers today have not read the whole Bible even once
Street Preacherz
We always seem to find time for the people we love, don’t we? God gives us so much in the bible. Can you image trying to live a victorious life in Jesus Christ without Ephesians or Galatians or the Psalms or Matthew. Or, OK you got me Gen. Ex. Lev. Nu. Deut. And what’s that other guys name Isaiah and his compadre Jeremiah? Lol
Jeffry Woolston
I know drunks who can quote any given scripture word for word. reading and memorizing the bible is not what is important as much as knowing/understanding and living out the truth and message of it.
Street Preacherz
You must be saved!!! Sorry couldn’t help it.
Jeffry Woolston
Tipple SSSaved! Saved and Sanctified and Spirit filled!
Street Preacherz
Drunks say that too. lol
Varnel Watson
Well it’s a Book. Cant understand it and live it without reading it

Faith comes by hearing the word of God. What about illiterates? I knew a man who could not read, but he knew more scripture and truth from it than most preachers I know. What about the disciples and Apostles who did not have the bible in their day and if they did could not have read it due to be unlearned and uneducated for the most part?
Varnel Watson
I know many man and woman who learn to read from the Bible. Some were taught directly by God they claimed. And then I also know of many well literate in the Bible preachers who do social drinking like sport. Can a drunk man speak in tongues? The Bible clearly says – for these are not drunk as you may think…
Ryan Neil Rutan
Yes sir, I have. It’s all good. 🙂
Varnel Watson
Apocrypha too?

Troy Day Some, I want to read more, but that is not part of the biblical canon, so it is not authoritative. But it is good to read for insight into the contemporary thought of the biblical authors.
Varnel Watson
Depends which canon we are talking about of course
Street Preacherz
I could have read it more if didnt get stuck. I been rereading Luke for a month. 7-8x. I know I’m missing something. Tenderness and gentleness it’s in there. I just know it… Happen to me last year with Galatians 7-8x then I read Romans 10:3&4 balled like a baby lol

I have disciplined myself to read through the whole bible but have never been able to make myself go back to the first ( 8 ) chapters in I Chronicles and really read them a second time. What about you; do you see a need for those chapters and if so what purpose do they serve? Then in Leviticus there is chapter after chapter telling how to butcher animals. That’s why I cringe when I hear pastors telling their people to read the whole bible when some of it would best be avoided and time spent in more productive areas.
Varnel Watson
Yes – if you take the time to study the meanings of the names

The first 8 get you ready for 9. Thank you, I have my home work for the new year.

Oh the glories of the modern age. I like what Newton said. He saw further because he stood on the shoulders of giants. In this age we should closer to God and more full of faith not less . I have Matthew Henry, the whole set, used to be four books, all of Spurgeon, Wesley, Finney, 10 translations and a Greek Hebrew dictionary that pronounced the words for me. AW. Tozer, Billy Graham ’54, tent revivalist, recordings. On my phone!!! we gotta get moving folks the fruit is falling to the ground. We have a whole crop going to spoil before our very eyes

Does this count?

The epistles were originally meant to be read to an audience, so I’m sure it does.

The COG requires you to have read through the Bible at least once in order to apply for a minister’s license.
