Filioque, the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ, and Dake’s Ideas about the Godhead.

Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Does Romans 8:9 imply that the Spirit of God is the Spirit of Christ?

About a thousand years ago, the Eastern Orthodox Church and Roman Catholic Church, as they are now known split over various issues, politics, papal lands, papal power and such. And the theological reason or excuse behind it was that the Roman Catholics had changed the Nicene Creed, as the Eastern Orthodox would point out, without an ecumenical council.

The Eastern folks, from what I understand, saw the statement that the Spirit proceeded from the Father to be important because they considered both the Son and the Spirit to be dependent on the Father for their existence. A saint had called the Son and the Spirit the hands of God.

Roman Catholics saw it from a different perspective. The Father sent the Spirit in Jesus’ name. Here’s a little article on the topic.

If the Spirit of God is the Spirit of Christ, then how should we approach Dake’s idea that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have a body soul and spirit?

Isn’t that four spirits in that theory? each having his own spirit, in his theory, along with the Holy Spirit being the Spirit.

How does Dake’s theology square with either eastern or western theological beliefs about the Spirit of God?

The filioque is a Latin term that deals with church controversy that the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son. We conclude that the Holy Spirit does proceed from the Father.

Another thought on Dake’s theory. Why can’t a spirit have hands, lips, etc. What is it about these things that implies that one must have a physical body. Angels are spirits, and they appeared as men when people could see them.

This article does not even mention DAKE so another cheap shot of yours as it seems. Can you show ANYthing this man said from the ACTUAL Dake Bible? So far seems just another heresay BTW Your Heiser interpretation of the God head includes 2 YHWHs and several demonic el-s combined in a strange Council of 72 = 8×9 Now that’s a strange idea about the Godhead

    Hi Link

The teachings of Dake do not square or line up at all with either the Eastern Orthodox or Western Catholic beliefs.
The difference begins with method of interpretation. Dake uses the literal method to interpret scripture (Stresses the literal sense of Scripture excluding that of figurative expressions) and both the Eastern and Western Catholic use the allegorical or spiritual method ( Secret meanings behind the literal words ).

Here is Dakes note on this( Rom. 8:9) verse:
[But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you] You Christians are not minding the things of the flesh, but of the Spirit, if the Spirit dwells in you. If you do not have the Spirit you do not belong to Christ. If Christ is in you (2Cor. 5:17-18), the body is dead to all sin, and the Spirit dominates your life as you live to all righteousness (Rom. 8:10). If this is true, you can expect quickening for your mortal bodies by the Spirit that dwells in you (Rom. 8:11).

    Rico:
If you see God as a mystery, then yeah, you could see the Spirit of God being the same as the Spirit of Christ. But the truth is that everyone is made having a body , soul, and spirit. Just like God. The soul of each person is that which feels and the spirit of each person is that which knows–the mind. This is different than the third person in the Trinity- the Holy Spirit.

Very interesting and provoking stuff. sorry to say yet another doctrine I don’t have time for. They accuse me of being on the milk. That I’m not ready for meat. But as far as I’m concerned this is only gristle. The meat is in the doing not the hearing.

John 4:34 KJV — Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

It’s not the flesh we are walking in the Spirit. If we have the Spirit. Or we should be following the Lord we have the Spirit dwelling in us if we have the Spirit. The Bible says Ge will guide you into all Truth and Righteousness. All three is God. Or was in the beginning with God. There are Three that bear record in Heaven. God , the Son , and The Spirit. These three are One. They all Three has always been. Even before He was born in a Manger. He has been since the beginning. God said Let Us Make Man in Our Own Imagine. So we are created in His Image.

You was made in the Image Of God. But God gave you a choice weather you want to follow. Him. But we are made in His Likeness. But when His breath was breathed into Adam. That’s the Spirit and Soul. The Bible says that in Genesis. When God breathed into Adams nostrils, is how the Bible says it. Man became a living Soul. So the Bible says He Breathed a Soul into us. And God is a Sprit. And we that worship Him shall worship Him in Spirit and Truth. He Also can appear in a body. He did to Abraham , Jacob, but when they see he robed with a body that you can’t see His Spirit. But it’s hard to explain. If I wasn’t in a hurry as I always am usually on Friday and especially Saturday. I’ll explain more if you want to hear what I have to day at all.
