In taking a figurative view of Rev.20, if the " rest of the dead" in v.5 are the "dead in Christ"(Col. 3:3), could this not define the " first" resurrection as the one and only resurrection at the last day?

Those not redeemed, resurrected or raptured, those who never to God through Christ in and age.

Michael Chauncey perhaps but Link Hudson cannot tell us apart from 1-2Thes

Troy Day that is not consistent with what I posted before. The dead in Christ are resurrectedbat the coming of Christ.

Troy Day Show me where Matthew 24 shows a pretribulation rapture or resurrection of the dead.

Show me where Matthew 24 shows a:
      — pretribulation rapture
      — ‘one shall be taken and another left’ BEFORE the tribulation (as oppose to after like is actually in the passage
      — a warning about watching and a comparison to a thief coming BEFORE the tribulation (as opposed to the setting after the tribulation as in the passage.

Why don’t we talk how pre-tribbers uses verses set in a post-trib time frame as if they teach pre-trib?

Link Hudson you have stated before incorporating 1-2Thes with MT24 – I have proven in order for you to do this you need to have the resurrections from 1-2Thes found in MT24 – without that your post-trib argument is invalid. Of course this is just ONE of its many flows

      Troy Day fallacious reasoning.

You haven’t proven to us that you are male. I could use you reasoning to conclude that you are not.

Link Hudson you havent proven much of anything about anything Just some feeble emotional talk of how much you get your feelings hurt when John Mushenhouse set your theology straight Duane L Burgess however has proven that MT24 refers to ISRAEL alone and you cannot even find resurrection in MT24 to prove your post-trub fallacy

Troy Day If you don’t have anything of substance to say in a post, could you please refrain from tagging me. Given the doctrinal points John Mushenhouse was making, versus mine, this leads me to wonder whether you are going Baptiscostal on us.

In grad school, that taught us to be careful with words like ‘prove.’ Name one point Duane L Burgess made that indicates that Matthew 24 refers to Israel alone? Jesus addressed it to His disciples, and the New Testament later reveals the mystery that Gentiles are fellow heirs.

It is crystal clear that Matthew 24 deals with a post-tribulational time period. That is explicit in the text, unlike your point about only Israel. Matthew 24 speaks of ‘great tribulation’ and tells us about the coming of the Son of Man ‘after the tribulation of those days’. ‘After’ + ‘tribulation’ means post tribulational.

Link Hudson well Duane L Burgess proved MT24 about ISRAEL alone
So you tag and call Troy Day fallacious reasoning with no evidence
but tagging you back and proving you wrong is a bad thing 🙂
How about you stop with your fable emotions and to actual theology

Troy Day I keep up with a lot of tags on the forum. I don’t read anything. I certainly did not find any ‘proof’ that Matthew 24 is only about Israel. I actually find the idea rather ridiculous. Where does the passage say ‘this is only about Israel.’ If we keep reading the New Testament, believing Gentiles are co-heirs. Jesus does not just return for Jews.

YES Michael Chauncey Neil Steven Lawrence this is of particular interest to me since Brett Dobbs Link Hudson related MT 24 to the CHURCH but cannot find any resurrection in MT 24 at all

Troy Day you posted a while vack that you believe a resurrection occurs around that time.

Link Hudson show me where I posted any such thing pls 🙂 I posted numerous topics challenging you to find resurrection in MT 24 and after you could not you run away for a while – I assumed you took a sabbatical to find any resurrection in MT 24 but you still cannot show any such

Troy Day i am pretty sure I criticized your approach. It is like the Islamic debater who challenges Christians to find the exact phrases ‘Jesus is God’ in the Bible’ then feigns victory when the exact words are not found. It is I Thessalonians 4 that tells us of the resurrection of the dead in Christ at the coming of the Lord. Not every detail is in one passage.

I have asked uou multiple times to show me scriptures that show that the coming of the Lord will happen more than once or tefers nonliterally to a time period of seven years.

So why don’t you stop with the silly line of reasoning and answer that?

Link Hudson yes of course you would switch topics to 1 Thes – but the point of it all where your theory fails is that you still cannot show resurrection in Mt 24 – how then you relate it to 1 Thes ? What is the common point there except pre-trib rapture – it is there that you depart from Pentecostal eschatology in the realm of some unknown schematics

Troy Day that is a silly argument. Not everything is in one passage of scripture.

Link Hudson prove it wrong IF is a silly argument – Ive been waiting all year for you to show resurrection in MT24 and you simply failed – basically your eschatology fails on pt1 by comparing apples and oranges

Troy Day Matt 24 has NOTHING to do with the Church. It’s about national Israel in the 7 year tribulation, her time of Jacob’s trouble.

The Church is a mystery (Eph. 3) being revealed beginning at Pentecost. (some erringly use the term, “church” to refer to all the redeemed in every generation).

The Church is UNKNOWN in the Old Testament.

The Church is practically unknown in the Gospels. The term “ekklesia” appears only twice in the Gospels. Even after His resurrection His disciples still didn’t realize the Church was coming. They asked if at that time the kingdom would be restored to Israel.

The Gospels are primarily about “the lost sheep of the house of Israel,” picking up where the OT left off.

We must study and discern to authorial intent of the Gospels to Israel, then strive to make contemporary application.

Troy Day Again, silly argument. Silly question. We know about eschatology from multiple sources, not just Matthew 24. Don’t you believe in a resurrection of the Jews at that time/ When do you think the resurrection mentioned in Daniel occurs?

The context is the pericope: Revelation 20:4–6, where it is talking about those who suffered and have their heads cut off, but remain faithful in their stand for Christ under the antichrist reign of terror. Their resurrection is unique, in that they come back to life and reign with Christ for 1000 years. during his millennial reign on earth. It will be like a second rapture.

The phrase “the rest of the dead“ is an aside. It is talking about what happens to all those who die without Christ during the great tribulation. They are not part of the first resurrection mentioned immediately following the phrase. They will be combined together with the dead from all of human history, and be judged at the great white throne judgment, and cast into the lake of fire .
