What is your view of this scripture?2 Peter 3:12 KJVS
[12] Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
Are we to somehow hurry to an event that already has a fixed time?
Or are there things we can do to speed up his coming?
Or was this simply saying we should look forward to his coning?

I believe there is some reference to Plato here.

The hastening is referring to preparing ourselves as quickly as possible, not putting off what we can do for the kingdom, not waiting to share the gospel. We have no part in determining when the Day of the Lord takes place. The Dominionists teach that Jesus is waiting for the church to “exercise authority” over the world and then He will come to occupy the throne we have won for Him. This is clearly contrary to what Jesus taught and the doctrine of the Apostles and should be regarded as heresy.

Why didnt Paul say “preparing”? Peter did in 1 Peter 3:20?

Actually Paul said “speudo” which Strong’s interprets as to “urge on”, “desire earnestly”, “to hasten to”…as in to pursue with speed, the meaning of which according to the context is directed to the believer, not Christ. it is the believer who is to “hasten” to the Day of the Lord, not the Day of the Lord to be “hastened” by the believer. We are to speedily pursue, urgently desire above all other things, pray and work with urgency as if the Day of the Lord were upon us, whatever we are to do we to do with haste so that it will be done when the Day of the Lord comes.
