Matthew 34:36[NIV] ~ “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[f] but only the Father.

It’s become common in Messianic Jewish circles and among others who have been impacted by the Hebrew Roots movement to say that Jesus’ words in Matt. 24:36 are a clue that He would return on a future Rosh Hashanah. The reasoning is that Rosh Hashanah / Yom Teruah is a feast whose date was "unknown" in the sense that it was not officially begun until the moon was sighted and the new month declared to have arrived (be sanctified) by the Sanhedrin.

However, I wonder if this hasn’t become a sort of Christian urban legend. There seems to be no source material for this belief. Was Rosh Hashanah really known as a day of which no man knew the date or hour? After all, must it not occur a set number of days after Passover?

This believer must candidly admit here that he has been very deeply ‘impacted by the Hebrew roots’.

As a matter of fact, my Lord and Savior Himself is The King of the Jews, and roughly 30% of the New Covenant I love refers to, or directly quotes the Old – and no wonder – most of its authors were Jewish!

Would you suggest that some sort of reorientation or deprogramming regimen might be advisable for someone like me?

Troy Day I found the gathering of the elect. Do you believe the gathering in II Thessalonians 2 is the rapture?

We have to compare with other scripture.

Why do you refer to 2 thes agian mixing and matching things that did NOT exist – where is the resurrection you speka of in MT 24? Are you unable to answer again?

AND Yes I will be happy to post MORE Sciprures so you can attack them without understanding them AS SOON as you point to where you see resurrection in Mt 24

because you see – as a basic rule of BIBLE interpretation Brett Dobbs you have to have the word resurrection in Mt 24 in order to relate Mt 24 to 1+2 Thes – cant just mix and match as you suggested that we have to match them 🙂 We dont have to match anything that does not match with the BIBLE like post-trib rapture theory

BTW while Darnell Henson Jr. Michael Chauncey Neil Steven Lawrence and even Peter Vandever have posted a definite esccahtological timline of pre-trib we are YET to see a post-tribber post any line of the last events – seems like post-tribbers have mixed and matched SO much they got confused somehow as whats fixing to happen

Jesus spoke in terms related to the Galilean Wedding customs as an illustration the disciples would understand.

Duane L Burgess TRUE and he spoke to JEWS alone in this narrative BUT neither Link Hudson nor Brett Dobbs can show resurrection here – is the 4 winds gathering resurrection of the dead?

Troy Day Matthew 24:31 says that there will be a gathering at the great sound of a trumpet. From the 4 winds, which is a metaphor for the entire earth. Just like the 4 corners of the earth.

      Ezekiel 37:9 (KJV)
Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.

There’s your resurrection. It’s at the gathering together. Just as mentioned in Matthew 24 and in 2 Thessalonians 2:1

There are ten days between Rosh Hoshana (The Feast of Trumpets) and Yom Kippur (The Day of Judgment).
We shall meet the Lord in the air at the Seventh Trumpet (The Last Trumpet in Revelation) and for the next ten days the Seven Bowls of Wrath will be poured out on the Earth.

Philip Williams Oh? Jesus won’t fulfill the last three feasts in the same way He fulfilled the first four?

God is predictable. He always fulfills His Word and every promise.

Ken Van Horn note that the trumpets precede the feast of booths. The wicked are destroyed before he gathers the meek who will inherit the earth.

Philip Williams First the trumpets followed by SHOUTS on the 1st day of the 7th month. Then the Day of the Lord on the 10th.
From the 15th to the 22nd is the Feast of Tabernacles.

Philip Williams Nope. Besides… their counting of the days only diverges for the early feasts.

Philip Williams No idea. But I know that Jesus was the first fruit of the resurrection and God raised Him from dead on the Feast of First fruits.

Ken Van Horn the atonement will be completed at his return. No more forgiveness after that as the wicked are destroyed and the righteous rewarded.
