My (literal) thoughts on Genesis 1.

Genesis 1:1-2 was presented prior to the active creation of the natural world. The foundation laid in these verses very well may be billions of years old. As we read the account of the natural world coming into existence, time does not exist prior to the third day. So, the first 3 “days” could be of any duration from a nanosecond to millions, billions or trillions of years. When we get past the third day, because time now exists, the days may have been 24 hour days. However, since there were no sentient beings present to interpret the time which passed during days 4-6 even that is in doubt. Time only has meaning when humanity is present to place events into its context.

It all hangs on the word “yom” that can mean 24 hours, a specific event, or a span of time.

Ricky Grimsley Love this explanation by Randy Buchanan but not sure if in includes or envisions the GAP theory http://www.pentecostaltheology.com/the-pre-adamic-race-gap-theory-explains-it-all/

The gap theory has a great gap in it, only one of which is that nothing died until after the fall.

I never thought about gap theory when formulating this. It just seemed literal and honest interpretation based on the text.

it related to a conversation we had with Ricky Grimsley the other day so I thought of mentioning it briefly…

How can there be evening and morning and a first day if there is no time?

It’s really quite easy. Humans did not exist until day six so all days prior were not from humanity’s temporal perspectives but from God’s eternal perspective instead. There was no need for the understanding of 24 hour days until humanity’s existence.

I get that, but it says the evening and the morning were the first day. So what was the evening and morning if not an actually day.

An actual day, as demonstrated by Peter, can be likened to any timeframe. What God determined as a day did not have to be 24 hours.

Once Adam came into existence then God, when speaking of days, spoke in the way humanity experienced time, as 24 hour segments. So, all other non allegorical references to days which come after Genesis 3, are literal 24 hour days.

The pre-Adamic race GAP theory explains it all:

    1. Where lost souls come from?
    2. Where the demons come from? 3. When did Satan fall from the Heavens?
    4. How did 1/3 of the angels fall with Satan?
    5. Why do the Bible tells us TWO creation stories?
    6. Why was earth created staples and void (this brings to perspective flat earth vs a globe as well)?
    7. Why do the Bible tells us TWO flood narratives?
    8. Age of earth?
    9. The disappearing of the dinosaucers and why where no dinosaucers in Noah’s ark?
    10. The whole doctrine of Original sin and its coming into man’s flesh?

Just try to explain the above without pre-Adamic race GAP theory and you will see for yourself…
