[Matthew 16:27-28] For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works. 28 Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.” (NKJV)

In verse 27, Jesus talks about Him coming, particularly "in the glory of His Father and His angels"; He says when this happens, He will reward each according to their works. It would seem that Christ here is talking about His second coming (cf. Revelation 22:12). If that is so, it would make sense that in the very next verse, where Christ once again talks about Him coming, particularly "in His kingdom", He is talking about the same coming, namely, His second coming.

If so, Jesus’ words that there were some standing with Him who would not taste death until they see Him coming would mean that His second coming took place in the first century, or else it would be a failed prophecy. Either of these options. That is, unless Jesus is not talking about His second coming in verse 28, but a coming that is different from the one He just mentioned in the previous verse… or unless He isn’t talking about His second coming in verse 27, but that seems very unlikely.

So my question is, what is the basis for such an interpretation, namely, that Jesus is talking about two different comings in verses 27 and 28? The most reasonable one seems to be that Jesus is talking about the same coming of His within these two consecutive verses, not two different ones. So what is the basis for saying that He is?

    No.

Matthew 16:27-28 (KJV) 27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. 28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

    Is basically the same as:

Matthew 25:31-34 (KJV) 31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth [his] sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

This is all the same coming. Different details in his coming. But both passages show Jesus coming in glory, with his angels, into the kingdom.

And more details that occurs just before his coming:

Revelation 11:15-19 (KJV) 15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become [the kingdoms] of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. 16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, 17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. 18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth. 19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

Brett Dobbs so how would the church be coming back in MT28 if there is NO resurrection mention and if the church dont go to heaven in first place

Troy Day he comes with the saints who have died/slept in Christ, he comes in the clouds he resurrects those saints bodies. And then he calls up the saints who are alive, to meet him in the air. Then Jesus comes on down to do all the stuff mentioned in my 1st comments.

      Brett Dobbs it never says
he comes with the saints who have died/slept in Christ

it says he comes back with ALL his saints

1 Thessalonians 3:13 May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones

      Hebrews 10:26 mean?
If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left

Brett Dobbs do you believe Jude 1:14-15 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints

Troy Day in light of Revelation 19, I’d say that seems to line up very well.

There are several aspects of Christ’s kingdom.

    1.The entire universe. Psalm 103:19
    2. Israel. Isaiah 44:6
    3. The church. 1 Timothy 6:14-15

Those standing there listening to Him speak saw the kingdom come in power on the day of Pentecost when the church was born.

The EXACT same coming. And Jesus didn’t lie. There WERE some standing there that were STILL alive when He came. We’ve just missed His coming by 2,000 years…HE didn’t lie though…some of them didn’t taste of death before it happened some 40 years later.

Dan Anthony correct Duane L Burgess
there is oNLY ONE coming of Jesus with the Church
and only one going of the Church to Jesus in the rapture
HOW else would the Church be coming back with Jesus? @brett dobbs ?

Troy Day actually what I think Dan Anothony is suggesting is that Jesus already returned to call up the church in 70 AD.
Thus, if there was a pre trib rapture then it happened in 70 AD. Therefore that means that we are the tribulation saints waiting on the great tribulation to begin.

However I don’t understand how that could work out knowing that the church and many of the apostles lived on after 70 AD.

Brett Dobbs YES @Dan Anothony is suggesting is that Jesus already returned to call up the church in 70 AD and that is very much pre-trib alike what Oscar Valdez has been suggesting about the RETURN

Dan Anthony yes Brett Dobbs it is what he is speaking of in his comment There is a particularly heretical wing within oneness Pentecostalism that strayed away from Pentecostal theology into the covenant of DTS alike Oscar Valdez who says is Pentecostal but cites predominantly anti-Pentecostal books

Jesus speaks about the future judgment when He returns.

Then He says that some of His disciples will see “the Son of man coming in His Kingdom.”
    Keep reading into Matt. 17.
This is a glimpse into what the future holds and is fulfilled in the next verses, the “Mount of Transfiguration” event, Matt. 17 .

He certainly came in power on the Day of Pentecost as some of those listening to him would experience. This baptism gave the disciples power, just as he promised in v.28. Anyone receiving this gift obtains an earnest of their inheritance which as he says in v.27 the full reward is obtained.
