A Growing Challenge

Should Christian ministers Vape?

The argument is that Vapor is not harming the body. Vapour is not smoke. And some people believe that Vapeing, favorite flavors, can help with food cravings, and eventually weight loss.

The customer, can even get vape juice with no nicotine additives.

If the use of tobacco products is a concern, for conviction purposes, the consumer can opt for no nicotine.

How should we respond, to the consumer?

I do not know of any church bylaws, which prevents, vaping.

****We cannot, hold to the traditional bylaw, against tobacco, because, not all vapor contains the additives of nicotine.****

Is vaping really safer than smoking? http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2015/08/18/smoking-vs-vaping_n_8004290.html via @HuffPostCaLiv

a minister should prefer a good pipe or occasional cigar. I can’t imagine Charles Spurgeon vaping.

Timothy Carter [03/04/2016 4:44 PM]
I have read that, John Wesley, enjoyed his pipe.

Charles Page [03/04/2016 4:46 PM]
A good pipe and a good ale are good for theological discussions.

Good = three power-point words!!

Charles Page, this is a nice picture you have up.What year is this?, this picture was probably taken around 12 years after creation.

This post is masterfully crafted to eliminate from the start all arguments against general use of tobacco as forbidden by virtually all major protestant denominations. It further limits the target group to ministers only, so it will not get flooded with distorting laity arguments. However, the poster misses one important factor. We live in the 21st century and the vapor could be containing strong alcoholic beverage or a mix of such. So when non-nicotine vapor fumes for ministers may be discussed, the argumentum must begin with the exclusion of any and all full or partial alcoholic vapors from the equation of the original post. http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2013/02/20/172488104/the-vaportini-a-cocktail-inhaled-not-stirred

Gene Scott preached between draws on a cigar!!! He preached masterfully from the letter to Galatia!

Cliff Spence [03/04/2016 6:17 PM]
Why? What kind of testimony is this to others, especially young people and children?

Nelson Banuchi [03/04/2016 6:24 PM]
No. Why would they?

Al Green This one time you are right. Dont put wine and smokes in the Temple of God, which is your body…

Jason Stillwell [03/04/2016 10:04 PM]
It’s between the person and God not for us to say or keep them from there calling because of religious beliefs God knows the heart and the level of there dedication towards God

Al Green [03/04/2016 10:17 PM]
We’re all a work in progress and I have struggled with giving up smoking myself I no longer smoke cigarettes or any type of tobacco through prayer and the power of the holy spirit…its the anointing of the holy spirit that breaks the yoke of bondage

Ed Brewer [03/04/2016 10:55 PM]
Everyone is missing the point on all of this substance abuse business… the church is whistling in the graveyard of humanism when it argues that it’s about the effect on the body. The problem with these substances is their substitution for the ability to control the impulses and proclivities of the flesh – it’s a way to falsely empower the body rather than crucify it and be led by the Spirit. Just changing the medium of delivery is no good compromise — reliance on an external stimulant or analgesic to deal with the stresses of life is a misappropriation of faith. Delivery of the message of the Cross must never be subjugated to the degree of pharmacological alteration in a purportedly crucified flesh. 1 Cor 6:12 shows the principles by which this mess can be settled if only those that are doing the harping would focus on what the Word actually says more than the pablum being served up by the yuppified, humanistic life coaches in some pulpits. We are to call men out of darkness, not pass out matches.

It has been found that vaping actually causes a new lung disease called popcorn lung, and it is incurable. I think it is as bad and wrong as smoking cigarettes or cigars.

Elemi Samson [03/05/2016 1:33 AM]
Vaping, smoking = same. Why vape and why smoke? What is the benefit? Damn, tis the same and = wrong desire.

Here’s one article about popcorn lung disease, there are others that say it’s not true. But I say why take the risk.

Elemi Samson Vaping, smoking, choice words = same. Why vape and why smoke and why use choice words? What is the benefit?

Elemi Samson [03/05/2016 10:45 AM]
Troy Day, “choice words” is different. Vaping and smoking is an act of inhaling potentially dangerous substances foreign to man’s internal organs. Choice words are simply external expressions. Benefit of choice words? Healing the inner self.

Tim Renneberg [03/05/2016 11:11 AM]
The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit… smoking, drugs, pain medication, sugar-filled soft drinks and energy drinks, red meat, salt, sugar, snack foods, processed foods, dairy, etc are out… at least if we are going to be consistent with that verse…

Troy Day [03/05/2016 6:47 PM]
If choice words come out of you read Matthew 15:17-18 Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them…

Whatever you do, that God allows you to do, do it in a place that it is not a distraction or stumbling block to others.

I wouldn’t either, but I can’t speak for others on this issue. If there’s no harm to the body, and potentially help to the body…

    Isn’t the vap(or) a nicotine containing base/substance?
Some are but not necessarily all.

Isn’t the draw of nicotine what makes kicking the habit of smoking so hard?

Wasn’t it rushed through testing as to not know what the full side-effects are?

They are still limiting the age requirements, why if there is no harm.

Just thinking to myself, out loud.

No vape for me either. Nicotine brings addiction and addiction brings bondage. I have enough battles to fight let alone putting myself willing into bondage and battling that to. We can get all we need from the Holy Spirit to calm our nerves and bring peace and contentment… and no bad side effects! Christians need to run to God instead of nicotine.

Everything is permissible for me, but not all things are beneficial. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not be enslaved by anything [and brought under its power, allowing it to control me]. – 1 Corinthians 6:12 AMP

Some doesn’t but then what is the point? The people I know who vape all use nicotine. Hence the cravings.

Way too much focus on what one can get by with instead of what one is suppose to do i.e. shepherd the flock the Holy Spirit has giving one oversight of and going into the world making disciples.
