is a thing in the past – we have church growth while having forgotten the art of discipleship from the 70s and yes the 80s in America We have a church generation constantly seeking spirit experience without ever making an altar dedication – its a time bomb; modern day charismacostals and bapticostals have re-shaped Pentecostalism in a galaxy far far away from Wesleyan discipline

I just see the intro to the lesson, not the lesson. I’ll respond to the title.

There are those that have the altar experience without the emphasis on Bible teaching of past generations of Pentecostals. In parts of the Charismatic movement, preachers stand up and talk. They might use a verse, but they teach doctrines they heard from other preachers and add to them. At least some of the doctrine seems to be like that, in some cases without being anchored solidly to the Bible. I don’t want to overgeneralize, and I believe there are many good teachers in the Charismatic movement, but I’ve seen some really light teachings that stir up emotions, but light on content and the word of God.

This is so vogue? Where are those you speak of? In a baptist church or one with no name you visited while back?

Thinking of some of the Charismatics churches that might have altar calls but are light on Bible.

Troy Day I don’t care to name them, but one I can think of that seemed to fit in that category shut down. Visit some of these churches some time, or watch some videos, and let me know what you think.

How can to visit them if you dont tell which ones? Judging a church by a video is silly

” Definition of disciple. 1 : one who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrines of another: such as in Christianity.” Of all the things that interfere with the acceptance and then the assistance of passing on the good news is the human mind. Psychologists have identified at least 100 different mindsets and approaches to information. So just as in Jesus day the same message is understood differently. To me this is an ongoing problem for preachers. In addition we have brains that range all the way from 90 IQ to 160 IQ and everyone’s education is different.

Somehow I think Paul’s statement about the foolishness of preaching factors in here somewhere.

Troy Day It’s not easy to say and it’s one those times when you grab for insight but you only see through a glass darkly. To some ears preaching seems like foolishness. To some preachers it seems as if their words fall on foolish ears. ??

Paul kept in touch with the Churches , some way. And they didn’t have conveniences , like we do today. Bet he did hear, because sometimes he reprimanded their acts , and actions. And sometimes he would Complement them. Most of his writings that we have , or I should say books. , he wrote to the churches. He wrote them from jail. Or under bonds. But at times he got to visit his churches also. And usually start a new one.

I think it is sinners that call the word of God , or preaching , foolishness. Because to them that are wise. It the power of God unto Salvation.

I think some was afraid of Paul because he didn’t know about Jesus. He was taught by the best of the Jewish teachers. But he believed totally in the Jewish Doctrine. So he persecuted the Christians. He thought he was doing Gods service. God knew his heart , his reasons. So God struck him down. He was made blind. Showed him the truth. And he excepted Jesus and was Baptized , and Holy Ghost filled. He didn’t teach altogether Jewish tradition. He taught The Word Jesus taught His Disciples. And some liberty that even Jesus Disciples didn’t teach. Like circumcision didn’t save you. So Gentiles could be a part of the church without being circumcised. I think he responsible five maybe half of the New Testament being written. Some didn’t like it but he became Overseer over the Churches. He was willing to die for the Lord. And finally did. To me. I can’t understand why anyone would be afraid to tell it like it was. We been to be the same way today. We surely don’t need comprise.
