Let’s take the subject of Alexander Dowie to a much deeper theological level being the main source for much of the early Pentecostal movement theology, praxis and leadership. With his outspoken ministry of miracles and wonders within the Full Gospel movement, Dowie basically
1. influenced every major player in early American Pentecostalism from Zion to Topeka, LA, Cleveland, etc.
2. was among those early healing ministers who actually had miracles happened while drawing the largest crowds of their times
3. Provided an important connection between early British sanctification/holiness/mysticism and consecutive Pentecostal experience
4. Created a model for a Christian community which actually worked for a while and was adopted (to one extent or another) by other early holiness and Pentecostal communities
5. Established an unprecedented model for healing and evangelism ministry that remains uncontested to this very day
I guess the list can continue more, so here’s my question:
Was Dowie a classic case of a Messiah complex or a true architect of America’s early Pentecostalism. What do you think?

The Emergent Church is bad news. while they KIND OF get it right on SOME issues that traditional (esp. Cessationist) churches get wrong (i.e. their attitude to experiencing God) they totally fail on other issues, esp. on doctrine, a solid stand on Biblical inerrancy, and a host of other issues (including ecumenicity, eclecticism from world religions, panentheism etc.) For more, see my post on the Emergent church on FB.
