Many health specialist say that up to 75% of all symptoms are actually caused from an inner die-ease. In my ministry I often prayed for the outer symptom but went on to treat the inner person. This often made for better fellowship and love and respect within the congregation. The drawback is that over time it takes so much of the pastors time and weights him down with many burdens.

Jim Price I totally agree with your comment Re: how many sick and afflicted people are dealing with the spiritual roots of disease. People like Henry Wright + Art Mathias have written deeply & persuasively on this point.

Also agree that treating the inner person is preferable, and it is where I almost always start. Re: your comment about the pastor being overburdened… I think that the ideal setup would be that a healing team be raised up, under his oversight, so that as many people as need help can get it. Too often people expect the pastor to deal with all troubles of spirit, soul and body, and it is encouraging that more churches are raising up healing teams to take better care of the sheep.

Troy Day there are many names for what is done… prayer minister, healing team member, deliverance minister. I know people around the country who are doing this type of work, and I have not seen Christians calling themselves inner healing practitioners.

Troy Day Pastor’s, I talk to today say that they can’t get into inner counselling because of legal issues, one said that you can be sued all the way up to the denominational level.

Jim Price Agree – I never call what we do counseling. Do you ever use a legal release / covenant not to sue? Many in deliverance ministry do so, we have considered this, especially since we are dealing with more people online via Zoom.

My wife and I do deliverance and inner healing. When someone comes to us for help with deliverance they usually have a history of trauma and/or troubled relationships.

Inner healing can describe almost any practice that attempts to help people deal with past troubles and to experience healing and wholeness. I will try to deal briefly with this often misunderstood topic:

Most deliverance ministers agree that trauma and unforgiveness can provide an opening for physical illnesses, demonic oppression or both.

We usually do inner healing by helping the person first to forgive and release anyone who has hurt or troubled them, and to forgive themselves if necessary.

We also pray for healing from any trouble or trauma that has affected them. We usually see, and the person usually tells us, that they feel much relief at that point.

We then proceed to deliverance. This is a very over-simplified summary of what we do, so feel free to ask questions or PM me if desired.

Some practitioners (like Charles Kraft and Bethel Sozo) deal often with past memories and often do fairly extensive visualization, which we are not comfortable with.

Bruce Gordon those titles or positions or better said ministers you listed are WELL known in our AG churches I dont have a problem using them or recognizing them as Biblical HOWEVER the question here is on the term healing and practitioner Much could be said there as sounds the least to say practitioner and better said paid and commercial title

You already hit a hard rock on your previous post – as ministers and pastors our legal dept. always tell us NOT to get involved where training and practice is lacked but to REFER – especially in heavy psychological cases Even William DeArteaga who runs healing shops around the country is pedantic in the name using and practice because ppl are crazy out there So who IN their right state of mind will call themselves an inner healing practitioner especially in N Georgia Atlanta area and in relation to the oil BIBLE in Dalton GA?

Troy Day I agree best not to get into trouble. And I agree that for someone who wants to minister in Holy Ghost circles to call themselves an inner healing practitioner is pretty puzzling indeed.

Inner healing can be important to deal with the root of outer illnesses. But “practitioner.” No, all of us with the Holy Spirit can pray for inner healing for ourselves and others.

Troy DaySome folks do it like Agnes Sanford. The best teology o it is John Sandfor’s “Transformation of the inner Man.” I guess a quick definition of an iinner healing practioner is one who leads a supplicant to feel healing for the sins of others upon him/her. This is the other side of confession, whenone repents for ones sins on others.

Kyle Williams I researched and wrote my second doctoral dissertation on what is sound and not sound in the Word of Faith Movement, and the roots of WOF. There are many who claim WOF is New Age, which use the logical fallacy of guilt by association and similarity. WOF roots come not from New Age or New Thought (which predated New Age), but from classic faith leaders like George Muller, Charles Spurgeon, Andrew Murray, A.B. Simpson, F.F. Bosworth, John MacMillan, etc. WOF tends to go to far

Paul L. King thank you! I am Pentecostal Holiness, but the church I partner with in ministry is actually affiliated with Faith Christian fellowship, and is named Word of Faith church. As I searched out for more info on “Word of faith” I found some less than favorable opinions in articles some that were well written or so I thought, and it had new thought correlation tied into the Word Faith movement. So I am thankful for you having dispelled the fiction for me! It

Troy Day BTW, all healings are faith healings. “And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction.”(Mark5:34). Those who pray to Jesus in faith can find healing. Also, “14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.” (James 5 :15-15). The faith of those praying seems to come into play here. No matter what doctrine one follows, no one can deny that healing and faith are connected in scripture. Notice we are not given magical spells to chant or speak over someone, that would be mystical and “magical” , instead we are to act in faith as described in James and in Hebrews and a multitude of other scriptures. A word of faith doesn’t work so great without a life and heart of faith.

Since it boils down to an elaborate application of repentance and forgiveness, there shouldn’t BE any “practitioners”; any member of the Body of Christ can help someone do that…or we should.
