Tongues as a part of ‘worship’ sounds a bit odd to me because I think in terms of Biblical usage of the term. Is tongues a part of prostration. I suppose one could speak in tongues while prostrating. What about tongues as a part of ‘service’. That makes more sense.

Is preaching, ‘worship’? Are activities engaged in to edify the body of Christ ‘worship’. I know of no scripture that says that ‘worship’ is the purpose of our meetings, though an unlearned individual or unbeliever who hears prophesy exposing the secrets of his heart might fall on his face. By worship does he mean, ‘what is done in a church service.’

I am in favor of speaking in tongues in church meetings if it is followed by an interpretation.

Junior Beasley I believe in it as a means of self edification and building ones faith. In church meetings things are to be fine for the edification of the church.

If you are in church and you give thanks in tongues, you give thanks well, but the other is not edified. So Paul said that in the assembly he would rather speak five words with the understanding than 10,000 words in an unknown tongue. He instructed the speaker in tongues to be silent in the church if there be no interpreter and to speak to himself and to God.

Link Hudson most commentators say that’s because everyone seemed to have a Message. But I don’t think it had anything to do with the worship in Church.
They were playing louse music blowing shofar waving banners and dancing in the Church and synagogues in that day. Matter of fact our 3 hymnal probably doesn’t do anything to compare to the worship services of their day. People were prostrate on the ground praying crying and weeping g and professing their love to god

I think you are anachronistically reading the idea of a charismatic church worship service back in the scripture. In this passage I can see evidence for people taking turns singing and prophesying teaching giving messages in tongues interpreting and other edifying speech. Do you have historical evidence for Jews dancing around with banners and blowing the shofar and all their synagogue services in the first century? The synagogue wasn’t the temple and banners in the synagogue? Rhe synagogue wasn’t the temple and Banners in the synagogue so-called Orthodox and believing Jews play the show far one day a year in the synahogue. I spent a year or two in a Messianic meeting by the way.

David danced the ppl danced banners was waved
Matter of fact the would gather in front of the tabernacle and sing praises and dance in the synagouges and temples.
As Davis said let us enter through his gates with Thanksgiving in our hearts.
I don’t know what messianic church you attended. But I have never been to one that didn’t blow shofars or dance or wave banners and I been to a bunch of them .
But yes Although the Old testament you find dancing and blowing of shofar and waving of banners.
If we were to follow the newtestamnt well it doesn’t say anything about string instruments so we would all be church or christ.

      Troy Day
Here’s one I preached in the spring of 2014.

      This Mornings complete notes.
Proskuneō – or “Worship” means “to give honor, homage, reverence, respect, adoration, praise, or glory to a superior being, by falling prostate or kneeling on the knees, and bowing the forehead to the ground.

God demands worship because He and He alone is worthy of it.
He and He alone truly deserves worship. He requests that we acknowledge His Glory, His power and His awesomeness.
Rev 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

He is the One True God who will not be used and discarded like a piece of throwaway Utensils or a Plastic plate..

Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exo 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
      Exo 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

We must understand that God’s jealousy is not the sinful envy that we experience, born out of pride and Lust. No, It is a holy and righteous jealousy that cannot allow the glory due only to Him to be given to another.

God expects us to worship Him as an expression of reverence and thanksgiving to Him. But God wants even more than that. God also expects us to be obedient to Him. He wants not only for us to love Him; In this way, we present ourselves to Him as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Him. This glorifies God and is our “reasonable service” (Romans 12:1). When we worship with an obedient heart and an open and repentant spirit, God is glorified, Christians are purified, the church is edified and the lost are evangelized. These are all the elements of true worship as seen in these following examples.

      1. In Gen 24:52 Abrahams servant Worshiped God when the task of seeking out Rebecca to Be Isaacs wife was Completed. Question Do you fall down on your face and Worship God when The Task Your Boss has assigned you is completed? Why not the For fathers of Our faith did!!!

      2. In Ex. 4:31 When the Children of Israel perceived God had visited them and was aware of their Poverty and slavery, and perceived God was going to do something about it, they didn’t wait for Moses to Part the Red sea, No, they fell down on their face prostate before God, and then God sent Moses. Understand People of Faith don’t wait upon the answer to Worship God they do so when The Problem begins to form!! What about You?

      3. In Ex 12:27 when the death angel passed over the Children of God, they didn’t wipe their heads and Tlk about how that was a close one, no, they fell prostate before God with bent knees and their Foreheads on the ground and WORSHIPPED GOD!!!!

      4. In Ex 33:10 When Gods Presence was in the Tabernacle visiting the Shepherd, Moses. Understand the congregation wasn’t waiting around to hear the message but they were prostate on their faces praising God. And the majority of the churches today, think showing up before Church to pray for the service is to much time and effort. No wonder We here more complaints about the services today then we do about the miracles that should be happening.
The Church starts at 9:45 and 6 pm on Sundays, that means the alters should begin to fill around 8:45 and 5pm on Sundays. And I’ll promise you this, when these things begin to happen in the churches again, the church services will once again be anointed with the Holy Ghost and Fire of God.

      5. In 2nd Samuel 12:20, When David’s Prayer and Fasting were not answered, and his child died, David dint get up cursing God and shaking his fist at Him, no Instead David cleaned Himself up, anointed Him self with oil, Put on His Kingly apparel and came to church and fell his face and Worshipped God!!

      6. In Matt. 8:2 the Leper Worshiped Jesus, while making the request for Healing.

      7. Jarius the ruler who had the dead daughter, instead of Mourning came to Jesus and Worshipped Him, while making a request for the healing of his dead daughter. When every one was telling Him you should be taking time to grieve, Jarius refused and instead worshipped Jesus, How many lives might be resurrected, diseases cured, and marriages saved, if instead of mourning the demise of our loved ones we simply fell down upon our knees and begin to Worship Jesus.

Mat 15:22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
Mat 15:23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
Mat 15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Mat 15:25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
Mat 15:26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.
Mat 15:27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.
Mat 15:28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

      1. The First request for Healing was denied, why? She Came Mourning instead of Worshipping in VS. 22 Her 1st request she was crying and mourning as if the Child was already lost to the devil. Well if her emotions were in full mourn then her faith said the child is already lost and Jesus can’t do anything anyways.

In Verse 25 She had a change of Faith, 1. She came worshipping at the second request, and asked for help. The Very action of Her now worshipping Jesus, put Satan and the World on Notice that she believed that Jesus had the Power and the Answer, and this time when Her Request Jesus tested Her with a question, it is not meet(worthy) to take the children’s bread and cast to the dogs( those who are not worthy)

But her Answer was Yet the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters table. Or other Words (1.) She acknowledged Jesus was Her MASTER, and the (2.) He was the source of her nourishment.

God adesires that we worship Him because our eternal destiny depends on our worship of the true and living God.

Php 3:3 describes the true church, the body of believers in Jesus Christ whose eternal destiny is heaven. “For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.”

In other words, the church is identified as God’s people. The church is made up of those who worship God, and in their spirit they are found rejoicing in Christ, and not trusting in themselves for salvation.

Those who will not, refuse to, or be bothered by, the worship of the true and living God are none of His, and their destiny is hell. But the true worshippers will be known by their worship of God, and their eternal home is with the God, For they are already found Worshipping the God whom they Love and desire, No they are not waiting to Get to heaven, but they are worshipping now. Understand if you wait to get to heaven to become a worshipper of God, you probably never will.

God demands, seeks for and requests our worship because (1.)He deserves it, (2.)because it should be the nature of a Christian to worship God, and (3.)because our future destiny depends upon it.

Junior Beasley If you can think of anything in the Bible or history about banners in ‘worship’, let me know. My wife likes that charismatic bannr/flag dancing, has banners, etc. I am not against it. I just don’t see anything in the Bible mandating it. Also, I don’t know that they did all the temple stuff in the synagogue, which was more of a Bible-study focused thing. The scribes and Pharisees in the first century may have been less lively than the Levites n the temple in David’s time. Of course, the scribes and Pharisees weren’t the only influences in the synagogues, but Hillel Pharisees were able to take over the synagogues after the destruction of the temple.

Your suppose to sing and Dance into the temple or courts of the temple.
Thats where you discover Jews would gather on a hill outside the temple waiting till 6pm on Friday to be led with music and shofar and dancing into the temple before service.
After the destruction of the Temple if you study Jewish history you will find that about every country they were sent to
Put a ban on Their dancing in worship all the way up to the 15 and 1600s.

      ‭‭Acts‬ ‭3:8‭-‬10‬ ‭MSG‬‬
[6-8a] Peter said, “I don’t have a nickel to my name, but what I do have, I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk!” He grabbed him by the right hand and pulled him up. In an instant his feet and ankles became firm. He jumped to his feet and walked. [8b-10] The man went into the Temple with them, walking back and forth, dancing and praising God. Everybody there saw him walking around and praising God. They recognized him as the one who sat begging at the Temple’s Gate Beautiful and rubbed their eyes, astonished, scarcely believing what they were seeing.

Junior Beasley lots of ‘Bob’ and ‘Bobby’ in those meetings. Bobby pins a flying. Preachers a preachin’ against bobby socks, ear bobs, and bobbin’ hair. I am still not sure what a Bobby sock is.

I wonder if some of the Bob’s who went to church just introduced themselves as Robert and went by Robert at church so people wouldn’t look back at them during the preaching.

Paul was clear, writing to the Corinthian church that was abusing spiritual gifts: tongues were a sign to unbelieving Israel, as prophesied, warning of pending judgment, which fell in AD70. The purpose of tongues was completed and they ceased.
No one has spoken in biblical tongues since the first century.
Today’s manifestation is pagan babbling and ecstatic speech.
