It is surprising how many “Pentecostal” practices have become common in the mainline churches, such as the Baptist and Presbyterians. Many congregations regularly raise their hands during worship, etc. The largest Baptist Church in Georgia now has elders anoint and pray for the sick at their services. This would have been deemed “cultic” just fifty years ago. If you ask why they are doing such an “anti-cessationist” thing they would probably just say “the Bible tells us to do it.” Of course…
But all of us owe a debt of gratitude to the Pentecostals (a.k.a. “Holy Rollers”) for modeling the healing ministry to the greater Christian community. Here is my article on the origins of Pentecostalism:
