Most Christians in America Now Support Homosexuality?

A comprehensive study released by the Pew Research Center analyzing various questions surrounding Americans’ relationship with religion has found that adults continue to overwhelmingly believe in God, but that support is declining. The poll also found that a majority American Christians now support homosexuality, but less so on abortion. This is what happens when you throw out biblical authority and solid teaching, and replace it with a compromising, watered-down pseudo-gospel that doesn’t preach righteousness in Christ, but makes people feel better on their way to Hell.

Other aspects of religious life were also documented — 55 percent of adults said they pray daily; 53 percent said they find religion very important; and 50 percent said they attend services at least monthly, with all numbers being down from the 2007 statistics.

A recent essay of mine “Options: Dealing with the Sins of the Nation,” is about the corporate iniquities of the USA today. One of them I call, “the Rule of Emotion” which elevates our desires to the level of moral authority-if we want something bad enough, it can’t be a sin. Best be a Christian who struggles with same-sex attractions, not a gay who is a Christian. The church’s attempts to bring healing and transformation to the gay Christian have done more harm than good. The church and the pulpit need to get off their high horse of judgment and learn from Jesus and Christian Inner Healing what is effective in life transformation and inner healing. The field has advanced. Has the church?

EARLIER today Ed Brewer commented this

Your premise is flawed when.you presume there is such a thing as a ‘gay’ person – there are those who behave in abominable ways, and in each instance, regardless of the strength of the temptation or apparent weakness in a particular area, it is a choice of sin and self over righteousness. To accept the vernacular of compromise and errantly lend the status of biological proclivity and thereby inevitable and irresistible is to deny 1 Corinthians 10:13. The word makes plain the progression of sin and it’s consequence (James 1:13-18 et al). Freedom from bondage to sin is the very essence of salvation. The very argument some try to use to justify homosexual and other deviant, biblically forbidden behaviors, is an attempt to say man can be free and bound at the same time. Simple answer – no!

Forgive me Ed Brewer BUT Your premise is flawed while you presume your deeply missguided fundamental misrepresentation my words I did not write the article OR form the terminology The Pew Research did and it was published by Christianity Today Pls take it with them Thank you

Troy Day ….I recognize you didn’t write the article, nor do I presume any approval of such from you – my only point was that by embracing the word ‘gay’ as a descriptor of such behavior – even though it is only meant to refer to people that habitually engage in it – is to tacitly validate their self description. A man doesn’t get to say he’s a fish, but if I call him a fish just because he calls himself one, I’m empowering his lunacy. Please forgive me if my original post inferred anything remotely like an embrace of the statement or the poll mentioned in the article on your part.

Neil Short too gave his short answer not long ago as follows

The church needs to think really carefully about her ministry to today’s generation. On one hand, we should seek to be relevant. We need to stand by Scripture. Finding ministry for new situations is not necessarily an assault on the authority of Scripture. We must constantly ask if the Bible really says what our narrative says it says. That’s not necessarily compromise. It is a second look at doctrines—motivated by changing situations—to verify Bible doctrines and separate them from our traditions and assumptions.

So for I have not seen any detailed study of Gen.19, we are quick to put two women or two men who are in loving relationship, who live quite lives and do good in the same camp as the ruffians of Gen 19:4 nor have we seen explained why Lot would offer up his daughters as if they were meat for the slaughter. A careful reading offers up a very different picture than what we have assumed. In the N T homosexuality is lumped in with many other sins and carries with it the assumptions the Jews had of the raucous types found in Gen. 19. I have been studying this now for several years and was recently at a fiftieth anniversary where a gay son treated his parents to a large and expensive celebration. So far I have more questions than I have answers.

All this points to the fact that the United States, following the sad example of Europe, is becoming a post-Christian culture—one in which decreasing percentages of Americans operate out of a Christian frame of reality. We are on the threshold of a radically new reality. This had better awaken American Christians to the new evangelistic and missions challenge right before our eyes and in our own neighborhoods. Our nation is becoming one vast mission field, with growing numbers of Americans who have virtually no knowledge of Christianity at all. We are going to have to rethink how we see our own nation, and redouble, again and again, our commitment to share Christ. https://www.bible-studys.org/Bible%20Books/Genesis/Genesis%20Chapter%2019.html

Daniel Rusk Worthy of death? Will you be willing to throw the switch on their electric chair? I have just reread Rom. 1:18-32 and frankly the despicable lifestyle that Paul lays out here does not match what most same sex partnerships look like. Even so millions in our culture do match Paul’s description. So far as I know, no one in my family, reaching out to three generations are gay. But I have come to know a few people who live with a person of the same sex. What they do in private I do not know. But in public they are kind and generous folks. Now what we might ask is; what if Paul had of been married and had a child with gay tendencies, would he have written with such vehemence? I have been to Oxford England and saw the place where dozens of ” witches” were burned at the stake, spent a lot of time studying the ” witch ” trials in Mass. USA. As we look back I think we see that those who did the burning created the greater sin. Jesus did not mention anything about two people living together in a responsible and loving manner. With so many problems such as drug lifestyles, suicides, even car deaths and a host of other human tragedies, should we be spending our wheels over this issue?

Jim Price I don’t have to as myself any of those questions as they tend strife and confusion James such is a demonic wisdom. Your comments come from evolutionary humanism and bring about a low view of Scripture.

“This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.”
      -James 3:15-16

      The wisdom of God is:
” But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”
      -James 3:17

First PURE; it is holy it calls people to seperate from the things of this world and give the Word its rightful pre-emenince.

This renders peace with all men who will do likewise and garners the respect (whether admitted or not) of those who reject the truth of God.

Lowering the view of Scripture gives way to hypocrisy. This evidenced by our modern church.

wording of terminology is wrongly asserted especially when gay meant something else 70 years ago and will mean something else in another generation Ed Brewer In total, 54 percent of all Christians agreed with homosexuality being accepted by society, which is up by 10 points from 2007.

“Changing attitudes about homosexuality are linked to the same generational forces helping to reshape religious identity and practice in the United States, with millennials expressing far more acceptance of homosexuality than older adults do,” the report stated.

“Fully half of millennials who identify as Evangelical Protestants, for instance, now say homosexuality should be accepted by society.”

Troy Day …of course, but I believe the church is one of the forces that should resist that headwind. My trouble with this trend and with articles like this that are filled with righteous handwringing is that they don’t deal with root causes, only imoerical data.

Acceptance of such abominable behavior as normative or at least as legitimate has come only after a long and incremental messaging strategy that has spanned generations, and that began with verbally lessening the stigma on such behavior. After all, ‘gay” sounds much less egregious than ‘sodomy’. If the church continues to allow such to go molested by the plain truth of the Word, I shudder to think what will be embraced by the next generation.

The Associated Press identified it as one of the major findings of the survey, which asked a number of wide-ranging questions of the American public. The data found that back in 1972, only 5 percent of respondents said that they have no religion, but by 2014, 21 percent said the same, which is a record high.

the problem here Daniel Rusk is not a quick fix or the wrong answer / solution as Ed Brewer earlier proposed The problem is having NO fix offered by the church The church remaining quite And offering answers and sermons to questions NO one in society really cares about The new data from the Pew Research Center is sobering and important. With hard numbers, it confirms what we have observed for decades now. We are witnessing the rapid and accelerating secularization of America. The numbers point to a disappointing pattern of lessening identification with Christianity and falling church attendance rates. There is also no sign that these trends will be slowed, much less reversed. This is, for Christians, a confirmation of the fact that our nation is growing more distant from the Gospel and hardening its resistance to Christian truth. These trends have been visible for some time, but there is a startling new velocity to these changes, and one that we and our churches had better look closely and think hard about what they mean.

The saving power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ remains as true as ever, but the fact is that the evangelistic landscape of our nation is changing right before our eyes. The rise of self-identified unbelievers as a percentage of the population is one significant factor, but the falling rates of church participation among those who identify as Christians is perhaps more alarming.

All this points to the fact that the United States, following the sad example of Europe, is becoming a post-Christian culture—one in which decreasing percentages of Americans operate out of a Christian frame of reality. We are on the threshold of a radically new reality.

Those who choose that abominable lifestyle today have embraced euphemisms that don’t describe their behavior, but attempt to assume an identity apart from just a regular old sinner to hide the nature of their rebellion – choosing self over Savior. When we use their terminology, we’re giving them a cultural ‘amen’ every time we use it. That’s my only point.

Brother Troy there are socities in this world who don’t know who Christ is and can never condone nor tolerate or support homosexuality..To them it is an aberration a contra social norm.. Unacceptable.
And yet they have never heard of Mosaic laws..

Have you read Jesus’ statement on human sexuality? Matt 19:4-6

4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”
    NIV

Plain in everyone’s eyes.. but because of hyper grace…?.
I thinkn grace is not supposed to be cessation of the law but perfection of the law..
A friend once said in this group that I have skewed ideas about the Bible….
I don’t know if what he said is true…but I try to read the Bible as it and avoid human. Interpretation/misinterpretation of Scriptures because sometimes people err in their theologies and want others to.accept them as truth

He was asked about divorce but His answer reals God’s plan. Man is trying to separate what God has joined together.

Can they be a real Christian, to support this. But I kn I w what you mean. But it’s hard to believe they are real Christians. And uphold sin. Because that’s believing in deep sin.

Jesus said it like this,”Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them MALE and FEMALE,’ and said, ‘For this reason a MAN will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife (FEMALE), and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what GOD HAS JOINED (MALE TO FEMALE) together, let no one separate.” (Matthew 19:4-6)

I don’t so where was the poll taken? To be kind, show love does not mean being in agreement with their choice in lifestyle!

A comprehensive study released by the Pew Research Center analyzing various questions surrounding Americans’ relationship with religion has found that adults continue to overwhelmingly believe in God, but that support is declining. The poll also found that a majority American Christians now support homosexuality, but less so on abortion. http://bit.ly/1RWPvGI

And that is an awkward question “Can a person be gay and still be a Christian?” “..
That is like asking can a person lie or still or fornicate and still be a Christian?
An personal aberration or deviation or bent from the set standards doesn’t disqualify them to bear the trade mark..of Christ.
After all Jesus said He came to save sinners not the righteous..

Isara Mo you’ve got to know that posters LIKE the one above are in this group just to watch and bug you NOT to grow together in theology It is plain simple WHAT common have light and darkness Christ and gay Loving the sinner is a western tolerance thing NOT in the Bible per any chance We could ask William DeArteaga Ray E Horton to write a balanced view on loving the sinner and they will BUT this does not make gay right with GOD Only repentance and change do – now RichardAnna Boyce may tell us HOW a gay person will come to GOD without repentance when they are living in SIN … also most ppl who say love the gay sinner soon end up with a gay child There is MUCH to be said on that but someone will get their feelings hurt

and ya really have to define what it is to be gay. Are ya talking about a lifestyle or just an attractiveness between two people? And then there is the effeminate issue which i have found to be completely out of the whole gay, libertarian movement (just another fertility cult). There have always been effeminate people that arent gay. But today gay is being pushed and a certain normality isnt being mentioned, Indeed every person with a lisp or about 5 yrs old is being questioned about their sexuality and put into certain categories.

secularism is just another fertility cult. If secularism banned sex nobody would would join it.
