Troy Day Correction. Advised you to go, since you live close by. Would be good to hear more first hand accounts from someone from this site. I would have loved to go but the roads from Montana are iced with some closed. Besides our car is out of commission from hitting a deer.

Asbury is a school of aberrant theology and there is no evidence of a genuine, biblical revival.

Duane L Burgess Michael Brown is one of the best living theologians today. Doesn’t mean one has to agree with everything he says. No one hits the nail on the head every time. That is why master carpenters still get sore thumbs. If every theologian were always correct we would not have the big differences of opinion for example between Baptists and AOG on topics like eternal security. Not all pentecostals agree on everything either, which is obvious from posts on this site. If there is ever a chance to get a reading of scripture correct, we must listen to and respect our differences, and pray that the Spirit will lead us to the truth. Seems we are a long way from that happening, when we look at some of the big battles that have taken place in the past and still are simmering today between within denominations. But, there is always the possibility that this could occur if we listen to the Spirit. Troy and I were partners in some of the big battles that have taken place on this site concerning the issue of an old earth or a young earth. Maybe we will some day learn more from each other on the timing of the rapture. or who is the elect. Just my two cents on the matter. Have a good day.

Melvin Harter in regard to what Duane L Burgess said about spiritual excess I cannot agree more; nevertheless I read this by our friend Charles Page and was blessed by his testimony

I was blessed to be at Lee College when the 1970 revival broke out, indeed it broke out. We had a weekly mandatory chapel service and on that day the Lee basketball team was scheduled to lead the service. It evolved into a confession and repentance of sins by the team members. It was godly repentance and the whole student body was moved to seek God. There was no prompting; it was not organized but it was spontaneous and lasted for three days, non-stop. Classes were dismissed and revival spread to every building. It was genuine!
Now over fifty years later revival has broken out. Asbury had a great move of the Spirit before Lee. Revival had spread to other Christian colleges. Our revival was a part of an out-pouring in national proportions. In like manner we are seeing revival fire poured out again. Is all this genuine? I’m not sure so I am hesitant to jump on the bandwagon, praising the revival!
In fact in retrospect our Lee revival also fell the test of complete authenticity. There was emotional excess, abuses of the spiritual gifts and disorder. I myself was carried away in excessive emotion and inordinate norms of spiritual behavior. (What are norms for behavior in a revival that has God as the giver)
A lot of students made lifetime commitments and I myself found my wife in profound praise in the Brown auditorium. My future wife was slain on the floor in the tight spot between the piano and the edge of the stage. I had to step over her and when I looked down God made a divine connection for us. She was speaking in tongues and praising God. We married two years later! That was fifty years ago. I’m certain that God is still in the arranging business in today’s revival.
Today’s revival lacks the spontaneity of human hearts seeking God. The news is carried by media outlets and others copy what’s going on. The response to the move of God results in godly repentance, confession and testimony to God’s move. Celebrated men (falsely called apostles and prophets) are mingling with the watching crowd, hoping to simonize this move into their own stage.
Will this move today endure 50 years?

Troy Day true revival doesn’t need media exposure. People will become aware of God’s presence in explicably.

The 20th century Pentecostal church was born out of the great Holliness Movement. The simple fact of the matter is – “Had there been no Holiness Movement (preached Entire Sanctification), there would have never been a Pentecostal Movement.” For several hundred years, there was great division between the Holiness’ theology of Sanctification and that of the Calvinism’s (Progressive Sanctification). The mighty Azusa Street Revival (preached Entire Sanctification) impacted America & the world. Certain Calvinist ministers (ex – William Durham) were affected by this great revival were also Baptized in the Holy Ghost and joined the Pentecostal Movement. However, shortly afterwards, the Calvinists began to propagate their Progressive Sanctification doctrine (Man can only be Sanctified after he is dead, thus, nullifying the fact of man experiencing Sanctification in this life). William J. Seymour, Charles Parham and others specifically & totally rejected the new Calvinists, declared their doctrine was of the devil. The newly rejected ministers formed the modern day Assemblies of God in Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1914. At that time, their doctrine was so general that many joined; however, a great division occurred in 1916. It nearly engulfed the Assemblies of God had it not been for certain men (ex – Flowers) who withstood. The division ended in a split, thus separating the “Jesus Only” (known also as the Oneness, or Apostolics) from the Assemblies of God. The Apostolic church likewise adhered to Calvinism’s position regarding Sanctification (Progressive). For the last 100 years, there has been much talk regarding the Holiness-based Pentecostal church to change their position on Sanctification to that of Calvin’s. Today, I call it THE LOST DOCTRINE OF SANCTIFICATION. Already we see it happening with the IPHC (International Pentecostal Holiness Church (Oklahoma City, OK) and appears to occur soon even with the Church of God (Cleveland, TN).

A Christian revival has broken out at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky which is spreading to other campuses throughout the nation. Unlike other so-called revivals of recent, this one seems to be legitimate. This one has no ulterior motive, no crazy displays of laughter, dog barking, etc, And nobody is making any money off of this one. It just seems to have started without any sort of planning and yet at a time when America is in great need to examine itself. Could it be that this one started in the mind of God Himself???
Previously we have seen revivals of various nature – some legitimate and literally changing lives while some were obviously phony. One focused on “Holy Laughter” and the leader actually started out one revival service by telling jokes. “Did you hear the one about the farmer’s daughter . . ?” Still another phony one started in Tulsa when some nut at a Kenneth Hagin meeting began oinking like a pig. And still another started in Florida when a pastor tripped and fell over a microphone cord and was declared to have been slain in the Spirit.
Now I would have actually thought that revivals would have started out previously when great discoveries were made that verified the Christian faith as legitimate. For example why wasn’t there a revival throughout France when Louis Pasteur debunked spontaneous generation and demonstrated that life forms cannot just come about as the result of natural selection. Thus an all powerful Creator was the only alternative. Pasteur’s discovery literally wiped out a deadly plague that threatened to end all life on the European continent.
Or why didn’t revival break out when Albert Einstein discovered that we live in an expanding universe that traces back to a point of creation and that leading to the conclusion that, as Albert put it, “Creation requires a Creator?”
Or what about recently when the Rawling s manuscript of the Gospel of Matthew was found to trace back as early as 30 AD and to have been preceded by one in Aramaic which was likely composed in the presence of Jesus Himself? Or what about O’Callaghan’s discovery of portions of Mark in the Dead Sea Scrolls?
I could go on and on with various other discoveries that have tended to validate the Christian faith and made the atheist community run and hide. And yet we saw no revival.
Perhaps the answer is simply that all of this centered on head knowledge while the present one beginning at Asbury is centered on loving the unlovable and on repentance from sin. Yes sin, that ugly word that many people seem to be removing from their vocabulary these days.
In fact many today have adopted the Hindu concept that sin is relative to persons, places and situations. For example Nimrod taught that there were no moral absolutes. What is sin for you might not be sin for me.
Now there certainly are personal convictions that some of us share that others do not. For example I look at Coca-cola as something that for me at least would be sinful to drink. Place a dirty penny in a saucer full of Coke overnight and by morning you will see a shiny coin with all the dirt and grime eaten away. So I can only imagine what a belly full of soda is doing to the lining of our stomach. And our body is the temple of God so I don’t think we have a right to be destroying it.
Okay that is my personal conviction but I have to recognize that there are some very godly people out there who do not share that conviction.
But what if there actually are moral absolutes that all of us need to be living by? What if there actually is a God out there who is very upset that we do not live by these absolutes??? That I think is what has stirred the Asbury revival and why it is exploding beyond the bounds of the small little town of Wilmore, Kentucky. Young people are seeing the obvious hatred stirred on by leftist groups such as Black Lives Matter and then seeing people like Joe Biden feel the need to apologize for even suggesting that All Lives Matter.
And those young people are not willing to bow or apologize. Of course all lives matter, including those of the unborn, and it is about time that we all got around to acknowledging that.
Two Greek terms come to mind here and both affirm absolutes. They are AGAPE and LOGOS. AGAPE is a term of absolute love for all regardless of their status. A young Muslim terrorist recently cracked open a Bible and saw Jesus ‘ words “Love thy enemy” and thought “Wait a minute. I am their enemy. Maybe I had better read this book a little more carefully.”
Ernest Borgnine, the famous actor was once asked to play the role of the Roman Centurion in the movie “Jesus of Nazareth.” Ernie had lived a rather vile life. He was in the midst of seeing his fifth marriage come to an end and had developed a behind the scenes reputation as a bully to women. And to top it all off, Ernie didn’t even know the Biblical story of the character he was to play. But the money was there and he was after all Italian.
So Ernie stood here trying to get himself in the mood. “Let’s see I am a soldier and I don’t like what they are doing to the man. Okay.”
And then Ernie heard someone read Jesus’ words “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” And all of a sudden it hit him. Here was the Son of God in torment and agony and all that was on His mind was you and I. In Ernie’s words “Tears as big as tea cups started coming out of me. I looked around to see Ann Bancroft. She wasn’t even in the scene but she was crying as well.”
And Ernie’s life changed. Marriage number 5 was so healed that it lasted 39 years until his death. And along the way Ernie accepted much more wholesome parts. For example he played the role of the angel Jonathan in a tear jerker episode of ‘Little House on the Prairie’ which many of us remember fondly.
Laura’s baby brother has died and she thinks it is because she has committed the unpardonable sin. So she heads up into the mountains to find God and reason with him to take her life and send her brother back. I believe it is in two parts and would highly recommend that you watch it.
Years later John Wayne remarked to Borgnine “Ernie You’re a great guy. How come you and I never made a movie together?” That is the sort of change that AGAPE love brings out and others begin to notice.
And then there is the Greek word LOGOS. It is used to describe Jesus in John chapter one. John could have instead used the term RHEMA as it also translates to ‘Word.’ But he chose to use LOGOS as it infers a truth that fits every situation. An absolute truth.
Again this is the sort of change that the Word of God makes in people. And I believe it is having similar effects in Wilmore and beyond. Again no gimmicks, no crazy acts of spirituality and nobody is making any money off of this one. So long as that continues I believe the Asbury revival will continue to spread.

once again Philip Williams Duane L Burgess Brett Dobbs Micael Grenholm John Digsby we find ol John Mac highly unbecoming in his attack on charismatic brothers and sisters. Let’s remember most of Mac’s following comes namely from the JESUS movement who went astray – he himself a baby boomer and perhaps a hippie wanna be consolidated MUCH of charismatic theology to appease his California sponsors and only then took some form of reformatic stance that even Kyle Williams may not fully agree with

John MacArthur reply to the Asbury Revival:
“For most of those kids I’m afraid it wasn’t about Christ, it was about (unintelligible), it was about singing the same words for 20 minutes in a row in some (mesmerizing?) kind of pseudo-spiritual experience that has no relationship to sound doctrine, to the depth of the gospel. I would like to know, if that same revival would have occurred without the music…shut the music down and let’s find out what God is really doing. But you know, um, one of the reasons that, that kind of music dominates…that Hillsong kind of music…that Elevation kind of music is…psychologically it takes people to a kind of level of hypnosis…it has the power to loosen their resistance and you could almost suggest anything.”

if kids wanna pray John Mushenhouse we should allow kids to pray – it really is not UP to us Asbury shut it down for the lack of parking Lee for the lack of wisdom and JMac for the lack of having anything else better to say as usual – – – these campuses need to be on fire for GOD as they once were I am reminded of the WRITE ANOTHER BOOK JOHN post which Link Hudson Dale M. Coulter helped me re-find when I lost it and there is me again trying to find it again … https://www.pentecostaltheology.com/john-macarthurs-strange-fire-reviewed-by-craig-s-keener/

Troy Day Johnny Mac wouldn’t be at home in Heaven with all that constant singing and harp playing, falling down before the throne of God, but no expository preaching! Oh my!

Sad to see him forming another remnant cult instead of proclaiming the gospel to the nations.

Troy Day Men have stopped the move of the Spirit yet again. Any with one day in academics has to know that Asbury was fearful of not having enough class days for accreditation and government funding depending on that. They looked to man and shut off the Spirit. I think that Asbury actually needs a revival as well as Lee and Johnny Mack needs a new heart from Jesus and knowledge of the Spirit empowering man.
