Just wondering why there are so many non-Pentecostals that seem to post or comment in this group? Isn’t there a theology group on fb somewhere for them? So many of these conversations go down rabbit holes of silliness because someone who obviously doesn’t believe in the literal interpretation of scripture posts something that shows they have no interest in the truth, or arriving at a better understanding of the truth. I don’t fault those who chime in and try to correct them. I merely wonder why a non-Pentecostal would want to hang out in a place where they are constantly antagonistic? The name of the group is not Pentecostal Polemics or Pentecostal Apologetics, but much effort is spent in both endeavors. Thoughts?

Good point Mike Albright But not really true non-Pentecostals. More of charismatics, bapticostal and backsliden Pentecostals

Nick Schultz [12/03/2015 7:35 PM]
Mike, I can appreciate that. I am not Pentecostal. I belong to a small Lutheran association that is conservative, confessional, and congregational known as the AFLC.

I am mostly here to learn about Pentecostalism since I am not very familiar with it. I knew that Pentecostals typically have a high view of scripture as do I. I disagree with a few Pentecostal interpretations and practices that I have seen on here but mostly, I enjoy reading through what people have to say.

I think “we” should be happy our brother’s and sisters if a variety of stripes stop by. Pentickstalist has a role to play in Christian unity. But I totally agree with our Albright Scholar (!) here that it is a THEOLOGY group, NOT polemics or apologetics. Indeed tgat mis-use of the group bothers me too, and gas ked me several times on just getting our and skimming the door. I may not be a very learned one, but I consider myself a theologian, and have considerable experience within penticostalism even though I now serve and worship within the Roman Catholic sphere.

Some folks post -of their own admission- to be provocative and to stir up controversy, as if they have nothing better to do. That is plain wrong. Everything we do we should seek to ‘ve guided by the spirit of Christ. I don’t come in here telling people they should all be Catholic. I don’t expect others to be here to try to convince others that the Holy Trinity is not biblical. That’s a throw back to the old on-line Delphi and CompuServe forums in the early 1990s when the Net was young. Come in guys, lets please grow up. If you have an axe to grind, then grind it by all means. But don’t do it here.

David Lewayne Porter [12/05/2015 8:55 AM]
As far as debate and then the literal interpretation and practices of scripture;
The following shows both;
Disputing
Acts 19:8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.
9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.
10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

Continued thought
Delivery of the gospel with signs following
11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

Or do we just choose to throw out the entire book of Acts which is how the Church was built and what enabled Her to not only survive persecution but flourish. We are not just supposed to walk away from tough topics and situations.

Mike Albright [12/05/2015 9:08 AM]
Verse 9 (Acts 19) of David Lewayne Porter’s post is to be noted. Paul didn’t continue to try to convince those who had hardened their hearts, didn’t believe, and spoke evil of them. I posted this initial question because I see so many posts and comments from people who are exactly like those who Paul seperated from. I was just wondering why people who have made this type of decision for their lives continue to post here and hang out with Pentecostals? What is their motivation?

David Lewayne Porter [12/05/2015 10:10 AM]
Mike Albright I understand, I agree to an extent.
That is why I posted what I did.
I truly don’t mind why they are here or why they do what they do.
It has a purpose and it also helps as iron sharpens iron (sparks, heat, friction).

Paul put it this way;
Phil 1:15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
16 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

How are you doing? In the Spirit. The Spirit of grace and supplication.
It’s very nice of our Lord to expose the works of darkness as He sees fit. To give us a word in season for him that is weary and raise us up in a faith to stand for Him and His miracle power. And a strength to stand against the evils of this old world.

People in general are not aware of scripture and beleave the tares planted in churchs as well as apostasy. Speaking in tongues is viewed as false and sometimes as possession and also not many church today place emphasis on the Holy Spirit, which Jesus gives to the truley elected and adopated son and daughters of God. We were left the Spirit to guide and keep us on the narrow path as well as communicate when we are unaware what to pray for and to perform the great commission, which is commanded of God and Jesus as a part of Christ new covenant for the Gentiles to be accepted as Gods first born tribe.

I myself am pentecostal and have an avid love for theology and though I never get involved in any debates and discussions, I pay attention to them because one can never stop learning. I honestly think that non-pentecostals join this group to learn about what we believe from us rather than taking the slanted opinion outside of our faith so they can know for themselves what we do and do not believe in. I also think that there are those who join the group because they like confrontation and debate and therfore they come to look for it. Just my opinion.

The Church Fathers forgot about Holy Spirit Baptism by the Second Century and replaced it with Sacerdotalism, Sacramentalism, and Neoplatonism, then spent centuries vying for supremacy and arguing about the nature of the Trinity.

And we are warned numerous times about these tares planted with the wheat in the church and the apostasy that will and has come. If it is not Gods word there is no reason to apply it to your walk…than again if it is than maybe it is best to beleave it. It is funny how Catholicism beleaves they are so right yet have idols in there church, charged people money to be saved, and have placed a man equal with God… And some how think the vatican is holy land yet God says from the Kidron to the gate is Holy…and some how we as Christians have let the Muslims trample our holy ground, when in the past we killed our own christians brothers and sister and the turks to take back Jerusalem … Just a thought how in the old days the faith and fever we had when the Spirit was with us as Gods children. But one day the Jews will recieve there land and the temple will be rebuilt so the antichrist can fall, and Christ will come and reign.

What would you say are the things Pentecostals get right? There has been some abuse and scandal. It’s true of every people and every age no excuse. But there may be some things that are notably different in the Pentecostal experience and life. These things are not new to Pentecost but generally honored in our midst.

    1. Prayer. A working knowledge of types of prayer and faith. Praying through.
    2. Trusting wholly in Jesus Christ. He is the Saviour. And baptizer in the Holy Ghost and fire.
    3. Believing the Bible the ways it’s written
    4. Allowing for the move of Holy Spirit
    5. Holiness / consecration
    6. Sanctification, (separation from the world to God, victory over sin in Jesus name!)
    7. Blood Covenant
    8. Jesus the Son of God, exalted forever
    9. Jesus the man. Humbled and emptied,
    10. Anointing, waiting on God for the witness and strength.
    11. Understanding the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit and how they function.
    12. Trinity: Father , Son, and Holy Ghost
    13. Authority of the believer, Jesus name. Faith works by love.
    14. Spiritual warfare; types, including intercession.
    15. Judgment here and now and forever.
    16. Baptism(s) as stated Heb. 6
    17 prayer for the sick
18 Altar ministry. (Congregational prayer, and prayer for the individual)
    19. Upbeat inspirational worship. A flow.
    20. The second and third offering! lol Brother or sister so and so needs a car, rent etc.

This may sound like boorishness to the mainline denominations.
It is foolish for the way that people act at football games and carry on and get drunk and a lot of other things.
But God’s word said he would take the foolish things to compound the wise
God’s word said not many wise not many noble not many learn experience the power of the Holy Ghost and its manifestations
God’s word does not lie it is always the truth.
A person will never be able to understand the workings of the Holy Ghost without the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the spirit gives utterance
I do not care how much you try to convince me or many others in the Pentecostal movement we know that it takes a second infilling Beyond just getting save.
    There’s no other way
Attempting to remove some of the above practices from our churches is like trying to remove part of the Holy Ghost working in our churches they will not be complete without these working in their churches period.
If it bothers you get rid of your pride and humble yourself and come along for the ride cause there is no better ride then the ride of the Holy Ghost.
Come along and be foolish with me.

Pentecost is an experience. You don’t have to look at as a demonation. Altho most people does. I’m thankful to be called a Pentecostal. Becaus that what Jesus said He would send when he assented back to Heaven. He said He would send another Comforter that would abide with us forever. He told them to gather in the upper room until they be endured with power from on high.

I been baptised in the holy ghost and praying in tongues since the third day. God had mercy on me in the Army that’s been along time ago. But the brother that lead me to the Lord also prayed for me to receive the Holy ghost and prayer in unknown tongues as the Holy Spirit gave me utterance. I was walking down the street about three days later thinking about Jesus Christ being born again and joy and peace filled my heart and a new tongue was born. Glorious and curious.
But I have to say I don’t find fault with non Pentecostals visiting the “Pentecostal Theology” group it does concern me when they leave their Christian grace at home. I suppose strife and doubts and heresy are natural to a public forum but where is the “thin veneer” of civility. Maybe it’s me but you can almost hear their snarls and the shuffling feet of their gang.
