Ricky Grimsley So being against Eternal Sonship s basically against eternal trinity
every son is ETERNAL _ exists as long as the father IN his father
that a son is birthed today does not mean he was not always a son WITHIN his father Joe Absher

The book is at home in my library, and it’s been about 5 months since I read it. I’ll have to pull it off the shelf and type up some of the relevant highlighted parts.

The book’s main argument is against adoptionist Christology (“In brief, according to adoptionism, there was a time when Jesus was not the Son of God. Jesus became the divine Son at some point, baptism or resurrection. The view was rejected because it denies that Jesus participates fully in the divine being and divine identity. He is merely a human creature elevated to divine status and one creature cannot redeem another creature.” from this interview https://academic.logos.com/thelab-interviews-michael-bird-on-his-jesus-the-eternal-son/). In the process, Bird defends the eternal generation of the Son as stated in the early creeds, if memory serves.

There is also a podcast interview with Bird at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QCYCtoPXJs if anyone wants to get the gist without reading the whole book

I was just thinking of this yesterday. I’m no theologian but this what I wrote up. Maybe it will help?
The Lord said to my Lord sit thou at my right hand untl make things enemies thy footstool. Psalm 110:1
This is a prophecy concerning our Lord Jesus Christ his person, glory and majesty. It is hundreds of years
    before he was born.
As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: Isaiah 52:14
He was the Lamb slain from the foundations of the Earth. These are prophecy’s concerning his pesron , his will , his love, his sacrifice, his determination
Thou art my son this day have I begotten thee. Psalm 2
This is a prophesy concerning his person, his relationship and preeminence
10For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Psalm 16:10
Is a prophecy concerning hs person, his approval, his resurrection and victory over sin death and hell.
There are many more prophesies concerning our Lord Jesus Christ. He is and was the son of God before his birth in a little city named bethleham. The house of bread. That to was a prophecy concerning his person, his right and purpose to rule in righteousness and to bring forth judgment in mercy and truth.
To say that Jesus Christ was not the Son of God before his birth in Bethlehem I think is a vain. Jesus the Son of God is one of his many crowns. I wouldn’t touch it. These are my thoughts on it.

How can Jesus be an eternal son in the past? Explain it?

How can any son be a son at all? – as he is part of His father withIN his father’s nature, blood, DNA for eternity – never changes
