“This afternoon, dozens of faith leaders were arrested in an act of nonviolent civil disobedience at the U.S.-Mexico border. More than 400 people of faith and supporters gathered in Border Field State Park in San Diego in support of migrants seeking refuge in the U.S. Faith leaders guided the group in a solemn procession to the border. When they reached the enforcement zone, they were stopped by a line of Border Patrol agents in riot gear. Leaders moved forward to offer a ceremonial blessing. Thirty people were taken into custody.”

30 people arrested for nonviolent action in support of migrant caravans

San Diego, CA (December 10, 2018) This afternoon, dozens of faith leaders were arrested in an act of nonviolent civil disobedience at the U.S.-Mexico border. Thirty people were taken into custody.

“As a Quaker, I believe there is that of the divine in all of us,” said Laura Boyce, Associate General Secretary for U.S. Programs at the American Friends Service Committee. “This belief calls us to stand with those fleeing violence and poverty, and to call on our government to uphold the human rights of migrants and end the militarization of border communities. In the face of unfounded fear, racism and violence, courageous action is necessary.”

If they didn’t interfere with the police work, then maybe they were illegally arrested. To show support I think it’s ok and not being against the Scriptures as long as the protestors obey the law

No, what i tried to say is that a peaceful protest can’t be stopped unless they broke any law. (Sometimes my English works bad, sorry).

Gerardo de Dominicis I think you are alone on this one brother I believe even Jan Dixon Sykes and Bob Wizenhut WILL agree that in this country in the 60s peaceful protest also bothered federal government but we DID overcome one day…

It’s called civil disobedience. You know ahead of time you will be arrested and do it anyway. Hippies did that a lot.

I’m not saying either way. People do what they think is moral over what is legal. We all have different ideas of what we think is moral. Last month I chose to break into one of my own houses which I was not leagally allowed to do for 40 days. But the tenant had left two crying dogs in my basement. I was willing to face whatever penalties the city imposed on me to rescue the dogs. After finding the dogs in their own feces, I reported the tenant to Animal Control. They let the tenant have 36 to come get them. They told me I had to let her since her 40 days weren’t up. That time I chose legal over what I thought was moral, because I didn’t have a certain better solution. Animal Control said it was abandonment, not abuse and refused to take them, which is what I had wanted to happen.

I have no problem with ministers going down to the border and getting arrested. Nor do I have a problem with people crossing a border getting arrested. Nor do I have a problem with a wall to prevent people crossing borders. As I said, people disagree with what is moral. I think it is moral to require immigrants to be vetted and require them to assimilate.

That is NOT what you said above neither what we are discussing here. It is not a matter of CASE but a matter of conservative republican principle VS the liberal conservatives William DeArteaga posted about … Why would you feel MLK was wrong when proposing we should oppose unjust an unbiblical laws?

I never said MLK was wrong. He never led a caravan across the Mexican border. He broke regional Jim Crow laws. Nonviolently. No rock throwing. Got put in jail. Called attention to an issue…nonviolently.

I appreciate your time to respond However, if you claim the people of civil stand at the border were wrong, you also claim MLK was wrong in his civil stand and willingness to be arrested His peace marches also interfered with local laws and police orders

Troy, we are making different points. I don’t want illegals in America. I think that is immoral. I do want blacks to have equal rights. I think that is moral. Many of us disagree about what is moral & immoral. As for TACTICS, everyone is free to choose whatever one they want to advance their “moral” political agenda. However, they will also suffer the consequence.

Troy, MLK organized marches and sit ins. How did that hurt anyone? He wasn’t bringing unskilled people into our country who would burden our taxes, bring in drugs, & join gangs. There are two standards in consequences to the population. You think these are just all good, hard working people who are an asset to our country, please house them in your house. Feed them. Clothe them. Teach them English.

I’ll say this I run into so many people that’s are in an uproar about this caravan.and the very same have illegals working for them I work in the construction industry and the same ones doing most of the complaining are the ones that hire illegal immigrants and pay them half the price they do every one else and then moan about the families having to get government assistance. Including Trump there is no telling how many undocumented workers that are being used in his different real estate developments

Yes MANY pastors in this very group – some have left if when exposed – admitted their grass or church work being done by illegally hired by the church illegal migrants. Cheap labor, they called it. Free for grabs. No harm done – good cash money under the table to help a migrant family for Christmas and so on Christian nonsense

      It is called EXPLOITATION
and of course Christian hypocrisy its best

There was a guy in this group a TX pastor I think – and yall know I dont like to talk about the person but about the problem who claimed to have gone abroad, helped migrants obtain legal visa and brought them to this country where now they cut his church grass. If there has ever been a conflict of interest… Just like I told Jan Dixon Sykes most ranch farms in her State area are manned by illegal migrants and the only reason we never see them on the State Report is because farm owners do NOT report illegal labor #hello

I know of NO ranchers using undocumented workers. It isn’t that hard to get documentation. My former company brought foreigners from Europe & China to do work that no locals could do. Just a matter of filling out paperwork and getting them vetted. We paid them good. It was skilled work. ………….. Any workers Trump has are documented. The Polish workers? They didn’t work for him. Some subcontractor he hired to demolish a building did. I hire roofing companies. I drive by. How am I supposed to know if THEIR company has all documented workers? All I see is several people on a roof. Same with Trump.

That is correct. None. Ever. We hire locals who grew up working cattle. Some used to hire local Sioux Indians for temp jobs. I live up north. It’s freezing up here. To say “most” is insulting to the honorable cowboys I know. The county where my ranch is has all of 800 people. Any illegal would stick out like a sore thumb. Everybody knows everybody’s business. ……… If Trump had illegals working for him, the media would be rife with it. They hate him and want to find him not walking his talk. Sorry, he walks his talk.

I’m not sure demoralizing and attacking our democratic values and institutions is “doing a great job” in any way. Break down the essentials of our republican democracy and you’ll break down religious freedoms, including Christian, and the opportunities afforded religion and Christianity to protest against immoral policies.
