I recommend Justin Martyr’s “First Apology” and “Dialogue With Trypho.” I’ve read the first more than once and am now reading the second. But I have to warn you: We have drifted so far that it is like reading a cult.

Catholicism developed as a means of protecting the Bible against Gnostic Scriptures. It worked even if it created traditions not supported by the Scriptures. But it’s true that Catholics have more honored the text and canon from the Apostles than have Protestants.

The apostate hiher criticism did not originate with the Catholics.
