RT Joshwa Bedford Which translation do you use for personal devotion and which translation do you use for teaching/preaching if you teach/preach. I use HCSB for personal devotion and ESV for teaching/preaching. Kelly Crites NASB is a good scholarly source but a bit old and un revised Almost like a final definitive edition 🙂 There is thew new NET Bible and the old Darby which a very very good literal and exact with NA28 How do you correlate NLT with NIV – 2 completely different traditions of Biblical translation ?

Troy Day well the first part of it is probably just talking about how it is kind of a beginner’s Bible because of the easy understanding of the NIV, but the second part of it I disagree with. I don’t know why it says that.

I know they revised the NIV in 2011 to fix some problems with it. Mike Winger has a really good YouTube video explaining all of the different Bible translations and why some are good and some you might want to avoid. He explains some minor errors that the original NIV had but they revised it in 2011.

Since I personally prefer the Textus Recptus to the Nestle Greek NT, I use the New King James primarily. But I also refer to NASB, ESV & occasionally read through the HCSB (more reliable the the Nearly Inspired Version, but not really suitable for serious study). I know I’m not Joshwa, but felt like responding. 🙂

interesting indeed – which revision of TR and which revision of KJV do you prefer for your personal use. Pls dont tell me Stephanus who created a TR out of KJV?

No; I jususe Nelson’s New King James Version. I keep several old KJVs around, too, for use with Strongs & Vines, etc. I’m NOT a Greek or Hebrew scholar; just sit at the feet of men who are.

I use the NIV on occasion but I’m typically HCSB and ESV. I honestly have never given the NLT a chance. NASB is a bit awkward in my opinion

YES I mentioned Marlowe above He was once the leading expert when we worked on translations. Him and Metzger but yet 2 different schools.
