(There is a special message at the end of this article for those who might happen to read this and do not have Jesus in their life and are looking for peace and a way to better understand the present-day insanity and confusion.)
This is not an article relative to politics or political parties, although much could be said about both, and not much of it would be positive at this juncture.
Instead, it is an article fueled by a sad reality.
To be crystal clear, I am a veteran and very much love this country, although I think I must clarify that to mean that I love America for what it once was, not so much what it has recently become.
America, if our history is to be honestly considered, was founded on the Rock of Christian precepts and laws contained within the Word of God.
Our Constitution was established on that same Rock foundation as well. That is one reason that America has outlived the projected average existence of 200 years for “democracy” type governments. America was never a democracy, however. It was formed as a Republic.
Two of the more famous quotes in American history are:
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” John Adams
And perhaps the most prescient by Benjamin Franklin in response to a question by a concerned woman as to what kind of government was established for the fledgling America: “A Republic, madam, if you can keep it.”
These statements have been, and are currently, being proven completely and chillingly accurate.
While I, by no means, mean to imply that every individual American has failed to meet the two qualifications set by Mr. Adams, nevertheless, we all bear a certain amount of responsibility for this country’s current malaise, myself included.
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
Contrary to the modern-day practice of convenient revisionism of words to suit the meaning and desires of the speaker, the Word of God means exactly what it says.
When the Word of God says, “ALL,” we all should make certain that we understand that.
We have been busy with our lives. Maybe a little too busy, if we take an honest look. We can use the excuse that we “trusted” our “elected representatives,” but we have had more than enough time to learn that a vast majority of them have degenerated into “representing” only themselves. We have a few (a very few) of them that are trying to plug the leaks of this battered ship. I believe that is no longer possible to do.
America now is populated by far too many people and even whole institutions who do not, in any way, meet those two qualifications, especially in terms of morality.
As for religion? What John Adams meant and what currently falls under the very loose definition of “religion” are not even in the same canoe or, for that matter, on the same river.
Since the 1960s, when our Supreme(?) Court ruled against the Word of God being taught in our schools and that the murder of unborn human beings was “legal,” among other horrible and rebellious actions, America has been intentionally and surreptitiously dragged from the solid foundation of God’s Word onto the shifting sands of humanism.
Jesus had something to say about that colossal error in judgment almost 2,000 years ago.
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall” (Matthew 7:24-27).
America has been far worse than just foolish. America was founded and built on rock, and then over time, intentionally removed from that solid foundation and deposited on the terrifying reality and shifting sands of hubris and humanism.
Even before Jesus made this parable of the wise and foolish builders, God’s Word tried to teach man a valuable lesson in a Psalm written by Solomon at or around 1,000 years before Jesus’ birth.
“Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain; unless the LORD protects the city, its watchmen stand guard in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for bread to eat—for He gives sleep to His beloved” (Psalm 127:1-2).
The Lord and His Word was initially the blueprint for building the American house, but partway through, He and His Word were (figuratively) pushed aside.
Where are we now?
Well, the rain has come, and the winds are blowing with a fury.
The storm resulting from unrepentant sin has broken, and the tidal surge has arrived.
There is a prophecy that I believe accurately describes the current state of humanity at this point in history. It was spoken to the Jews when they asked Jesus about the end of the age and His return.
“There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among the nations, bewildered by the roaring of the sea and the surging of the waves. Men will faint from fear and anxiety over what is coming upon the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken” (Luke 21:25-26).
One might presume that this prophecy relates only to the physical conditions of and on the earth. I don’t believe that is entirely accurate. There are many times in scripture passages and verses where they have a dual meaning or, in the case of prophecy, a dual fulfillment.
I would also propose an additional possible meaning to the “sea and the waves roaring” as also describing the present worldwide political conditions. I present this with no specific proof, but only my sense of this being an accurate analogy, supposing the “sea” equates to the human population of the earth and the “waves” the political powers (governments, kings, leaders, etc.).
If one takes the time to assign those two meanings/definitions to those descriptors, it becomes relatively easy to make that connection. There is seemingly no end to the turmoil and strife of the “people” and no end in sight of rulers and “authorities” in their contention with and rebellion against every precept and command of God.
“Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, ‘Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles’” (Psalm 2:1-3).
I don’t think there is any way to deny that this has become the current state of the world today.
The world is crying, “peace, peace,” but there is none to be found.
Worldwide, the sea and the waves are in turmoil. They are roaring.
“But the wicked are like the troubled sea, When it cannot rest, Whose waters cast up mire and dirt. ‘There is no peace,’ Says my God, ‘for the wicked’” (Isaiah 57:20-21).
Once, America was firmly resting on the Rock of God’s Word, but it has now become a shapeless lump of sin-washed sand.
America has joined the rest of the world in that same fruitless cry: “peace, peace,” but there is no peace.
Lest we should misunderstand, America is suffering for its own sin and debauchery. America is suffering for its rejection of God.
But, while America currently represents the current state of world conduct, America is inconsequential in God’s plans. It is not even mentioned in Bible prophecy.
It is Israel, specifically Jerusalem, that is the key to future events in “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem” (Zechariah 12:2).
Jerusalem is ever in the news today, and God’s Word will stand, as He promised almost 500 years before Jesus’ appearance as the Savior of all who will receive Him as such.
Now to the crux of this article.
So, why all this unpleasant contemplation? Why not, instead, think about the “good old days”? Sunshine and lollipops? Hope for the return of good times and trust that things will all work out? They have always worked out in the past, right?
Well, that was then: this is now.
The prophecies contained in the Word of God have thus far, over the entire span of human history, been 100% accurate, and on that basis alone, we can conclude that the balance of them will also be 100% accurate.
God Almighty has made it clear that humankind has an intellect and that we are urged by Him to utilize it.
“‘Come now, let us reason together,’ says the LORD” (Isaiah 1:18).
And then He, through the words of prophecy, warns man of the consequences of willfully ignoring or rebelling against His precepts and laws.
“If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best of the land. But if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword” (Isaiah 1:19-20).
And what is the reality of the world in which we live today?
“But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived” (2 Timothy 3:13).
As the verse below indicates, God’s council gets right to the heart of the matter. Through the prophet Isaiah, He tells us plainly that we must place our trust where the absolute and only source of Trust is.
“Put no more trust in man, who has only the breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?” (Isaiah 2:22).
If you have been looking to politicians, political parties, popes, priests, elders, any church, or any other man-centered area for a solution, it is now time to abandon this hopeless and futile position.
Even the most solid churches are not the answer, as they are only a messenger of the True Solution, which is authentic surrender to, belief in, and receiving of Jesus Christ.
Your internal alarm clock should be screaming a warning, and your spirit should be awakening you to the reality that this world is collapsing inward on itself, and it will not recover. Normal, whatever that may have been for you as well as for me, is over.
And so is America.
Jesus plainly indicated that He, and He alone, is the solution, the hope, and the future.
The special message I promised you:
For anyone who may read this article and has not trusted in Jesus Christ and therefore has no hope or peace in your life:
You can have hope. You can have the peace that Jesus has promised to all who have made Him their Lord and Savior. The peace that passes understanding.
It requires that you come before God on His terms.
And, what are His terms according to His Word?
- Genuine repentance (turning to God instead of continuing to reject or ignore Him).
- Confession of sins (that you are a sinner and acknowledge that to God).
- That you understand that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
- To acknowledge to God that you are unable to pay that debt.
- Belief that Jesus Christ paid your death sentence for you on the cross.
- To believe that Jesus is the Way, the only Way, that God has established by which humans may be saved from the consequences of their sin and rebellion.
God has made it absolutely clear that there is no one who comes before Him, under His terms, that will be refused.
- No one: no race, no color, no country of origin, regardless of any previous belief system: no one.
- No matter what your past sins have been, God can and WILL forgive you because He says He will.
- Salvation is available to everyone without any exceptions.
If you put all your trust for salvation in Jesus, and Him only, you can follow that prayer up by simply saying, “Thank you, Father God, for hearing my prayer and saving me,” because we can trust Him to keep His Word. He always has. He always will.
“Truly, Truly, I say to you that he who hears My words and believes the One who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned. He has crossed from death to life” (John 5:24).
There are no answers and there is no hope in the world by governments, organizations, politics or politicians. There are only lies and deception. But you can have the Truth and the peace you seek.
The answers are in the Word of God—The Bible. If you ask God, with all your heart, He will hear you.
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
