President Trump has just declared Sunday to be “a National Day of Prayer,” joining with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott who has also called on Texans to pray for recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey.

I had lived in Texas for two years (Austin) and have some family & friends out there. I also lived in Springfield, MO during and a bit after when I attended Evangel University (AG) there. Missouri, as you may know, is in that swath of land dubbed “Tornado Alley”. My last year living there a twister set down across town from where I lived. At the time I was staying with a friend at the edge of town and looking for a place of my own. He was to go on a bit of vacation when we heard news of a probable tornado. “What do I do if it hits town?” I asked. We had no shelter or basement. His was a small, free-standing house. “Get in the tub and hope it flips over.” was the response. He had an old-fashioned looking iron tub bolted to the floor. The idea was it was heavy and if flipped would shelter me from the worst. Thankfully, the twister changed path last minute and missed Springfield. But seeing the thing actually set down at the other end of Glenstone Ave. (main street through town) was scary enough. To see it on t.v. is one thing. To see one live . . .
