– The Correct Research Methodology To Substantiate If an Expression is an Idiom?
– In the early church, was the Last Supper Considered a Passover Feast?
– The meaning of παρασκευή (‘day of preparation’)
– Luke 22:16 – Did Jesus say he was not going to eat THAT Passover?
– Do Idioms Used in the Crucifixion Narrative Resolve the “3 Day/3 Night” Objections?
1. Question:
Is “day of” an idiomatic expression, meaning “general time”?
Why does Luke say the day of the Passover came, when it had not?
Is there any historical evidence, or grammatical rules, that may suggest that this phrase was often used imprecisely, idiomatically?
- Then came the Day of: …
- Then came the Feast of: …
-
Is it possible that: “It’s the Feast of Passover!” – may have have been understood the same way that we understand: “It’s Christmas Time!”, (a generalization, not necessarily the actual day);
-
Are Verb Tenses Significant? (“Then came:“, Aorist, Imperfect, etc.)
-
Are there any historical texts, that either confirm or refute this argument?
2. The Text:
NASB, Luke 22:1 – Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching.
Passover Came:
NASB, Luke 22:7 – Then came, (Ἦλθεν, Aorist Tense) the day
But It Had Not, Yet? :
NASB, Luke 23:17 – Now [Pilate] was obliged to release to them (at / κατὰ) the feast one prisoner.
John 19:31 – Then the Jews, because it was, (Imperfect Tense) the day of preparation, … for a Great Day was that Sabbath.
3. Research in Progress – Feel Free to Use:
Homilies on Matthew (Chrysostom), Homily 81 – And this one calls the day before the feast of unleavened bread, Luke 22:7 speaking of the time when they came to Him, and another says on this wise, Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed; by the word came, meaning this, it was near, it was at the doors, making mention plainly of that evening. For they began with the evening, wherefore also each adds, when the passover was killed.
Note: Although Augustine, (354-439) cited Chrysostom as an authority – I feel that what Chrysostom, (349-407) wrote is not conclusive because those works were not contemporaneous with the New Testament.

Sorry! If you read the book of Revelations that is not the way Jesus looked!!!
Autumn Sechez
Please it’s not about the photo. It’s all about His sacrafices making away for eternal Salvation with Him. He is in his glorified body so he won’t look like he did on earth.

Lisa Herblan, I didn’t realize that the Book of Revelation had a photo of Jesus in it. I’ll have to go and take a look in my 4 Bibles that I own.

l dont like this painting at all it’s no better than the crucifix, false

Its not about the painting at all! Its about a final destination when you have taken your last breath. I could have put any painting up here and it still wouldn’t be about this painting. But, since you chose to make it about this and not the message please do some research on the artist who was gifted by the Holy Spirit to paint the things of heaven. Her name is Akiane and she was only 8 years old when she painted this that she calls Prince of Peace. A little boy named Colton from the book and movie Heaven is For Real saw it, and after His dad showed Him many paintings and often asked what does Jesus look like? Answered after seeings this online from a Pastor friend of the fathers said, “Thats Him”! So If God gives the gift to an 8 year old to paint like this, and than a little boy of about 6 years old who died and saw Jesus in Heaven says thats Him I am not going to question it because I have not seen what they have. I don’t care what Jesus looks like. I care that all know he died for their sins!!! Because he loved them even as they were sinners. He traded His righteousness for there sin and Gods wrath against sin to make a way for them to enter Heavens gates, where he has been excitedly praparing us a new home for all eternity. I am assuming to those with only comments about the photo you know the Lord since your so pationate about things that concern him even if its neglegable. So to you who care more about the picture than the message I say look up for the savior is soon to come for His bride the church! Amen and Amen!
