We see over and over the nation of Israel – God’s chosen people, departing from God and following the world about them. Probably not necessary to list how they were warned against idolatry and foreign gods (etc.), but followed after them anyway after a (usually brief) time of obedience. This cycle is repeated for 1000’s of years. Good kings, bad kings… warnings from prophets etc…
And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the sons of Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will be saved Rom 9:27
Is Paul applying the Israelite experience to the church?
