Not knowing the writer and not having read the book, the title seems to exposes the mindset of the author on the subject – “A Theological Perspective on False Prophecy!” We know a lot more about President Trump that should elate all Christians now than before we had preconceived notions of his wisdom and fairness. (There, I am giving my opinion of our most historical president ever, at least since Abraham Lincoln!) If we are judging prophecies, then the appraiser needs similar scrutiny to see his intent in the discussion. A great source on our president is “Inside The Trump White House” by Doug Wead who is brilliant evangelical Christian and served under President Bush, the First. There also is an excellent video circulating on FB that features a serious and honest discussion favorable to President Trump between Rev. James Robison and our former A/G Superintendent George O. Wood. If Christians screw up reelecting our most faith friendly president in November, elucidation on the “Theological Perspective on False Prophecy” on America will be of little consequence!

This book is not just about President Trump. It is about every empire in history that has tried to usurp and use the Church in its political agenda. It is about the Last Days bewitching silencing of the true prophetic voices and replacing them with those of the false prophets. The author, William De Arteaga, Ph.D. is no small-time scholar. His best-selling book “Quenching the Spirit” has crossed many denominational boundaries transcending into the Biblical Charismata and advancing the work of the Kingdom. His historical essay on Agnes Sanford speaks to the women ministering in Pentecost opposing the cross-gender agenda. The recent publication on The Public Prayer Station proposes a new open paradigm for Christian ministry in the midst of physical and spiritual pandemic. And the book on Graceful Aging completes his public theological address to all generations touched and transformed by the eternal Spirit of God.
In a sense, this book is long overdue as it covers a much-needed research starting with the early forming of the historic evangelical vote prior to the 2016 presidential elections.

De Arteaga discusses the very interesting example of David Wilkerson’s false prophecy, The Vision. De Arteaga does not doubt that Wilkerson was a very anointed minister who bore great fruit for the Kingdom; however, his apocalyptic predictions for 1973-1983 largely proved false. They were based upon “the fears, prejudices, and belief structures of his own subconscious mind and those in his immediate faith community” (76).
De Arteaga makes a strong case that many of the Trump prophecies fit the same pattern. Many of Mark Taylor’s prophecies, for instance, demonize Democratic leaders and unambiguously paint them as evil. They cater to right-wing fears, such as Obama’s intent to strip the people of their guns or run for a third term in violation of the Constitution. And some have proven false with time – for example, the prophecy that Obama would be forcibly stripped of his office instead of leaving gracefully with dignity. De Arteaga’s analysis of the Taylor prophecies is fascinating, and I wish that he had devoted more attention to the other prophets that foretold Trump’s presidency.
In the end, De Arteaga comes to a very nuanced conclusion. He neither says that all of the Trump prophecies were categorically false, nor does he say that they were all true. Rather, he concludes that they may have contained true revelation from the Lord, which got diluted with soulish concerns and wishes. The kernel of truth may have been what led charismatic leaders to embrace the prophecies, and Trump. Nonetheless, De Arteaga chastises charismatic leaders for what has been, for the most part, uncritical support of the President. Even if Trump is anointed by God for a special purpose, the Bible gives precedent for prophets speaking truth to anointed kings. For instance, David was the Lord’s anointed, and yet the prophet Nathan confronted his sin. De Arteaga urges prophetic leaders to fulfill this aspect of their function. If Brother David Wilkerson is one of DeArteaga’s examples of a false prophet then I would not read his books! I watched Teem Challenge grow out of David Wilkerson’s Vision for the lost and I know his brother Don! 85% + evangelicals support our President as the most pro-faith and family proponent ever and your author friend apparently represents the fringe element of believers on this subject. You only confirmed that the Title of his books embodies his politics and not Spiritual discernment!

I commend you Brother Troy for all the work you do on this insightful page. Since the Book “The Vision” was published when Brother David was still alive, I believe it was authentic. 9-11 actually replicated much of his vision from 1986. NY and CA certainly are storing up much more judgment that probably will be enforced after The Rapture.
