Are tongues available to all believers or is it a gift only to some?

John Kissinger [01/07/2016 7:54 PM]
only to the ones that have been fully and entirely sanctified 🙂

Susan Duckett [01/07/2016 7:57 PM]
The gift of speaking in tongues is available to all believers

Shelia Ann Brink [01/07/2016 7:58 PM]
I don’t believe that it says anywhere in the bible that a person must speak in tongues to be saved. I may be wrong if so someone please show me the scripture.

Susan Duckett [01/07/2016 7:59 PM]
I don’t think you have to speak in tongues to be saved but I believe it is available to everyone who has been saved.

Tim Anderson [01/07/2016 7:59 PM]
Paul seemed to think so: “Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.” 1 Cor. 14:5 (ESV)

Tim Renneberg [01/07/2016 8:00 PM]
Open to all

Billy Winneroski [01/07/2016 8:06 PM]
All gifts, in my humble opinion, are available for EVERYONE! Because, if not, then God would be ‘a respecter of persons,’ which He is not.

Tim Anderson [01/07/2016 8:09 PM]
Yes – the Holy Spirit distributes according to his Wlll to edify the Body of Jesus.

Anna Mae Slate [01/07/2016 8:13 PM]
All gifts are open to all but not all gifts are given to all. To some gifts of tongues, to some healing, some ministering, some teaching, working with children, etc. God will give to us that which we are able.

Tim Anderson [01/07/2016 8:19 PM]
Anyone ever prayed for a specific gift and got it? I am mainly thinking of the ones mentioned in 1 Cor. 12 .

Charles Page [01/07/2016 8:23 PM]
all believers…these signs shall follow believers.

Trish Wynn [01/07/2016 8:23 PM]
My opinion it available to all that believe s but your also need to be a willing vessel to except the baptism of the HOLY GHOST

John Kissinger [01/07/2016 8:38 PM]
it’s not enough to be a willing vessel – you have to be a fully sanctified vessel – at least if you claim to be a true Pentecostal

Jim Cox [01/07/2016 8:41 PM]
Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”
Acts 2:38-39 NASB

Jim Cox [01/07/2016 8:43 PM]
No one this side of Heaven is fully and entirely sanctified. Sanctification is a LIFE LONG process. Anyone who would claim this is automatically disqualified due to spiritual pride!

Charles Page [01/07/2016 8:44 PM]
only if you want to be true old fashion CoG then you have to practice being fully sanctified. They are vague on how that is accomplished.

At one time women couldn’t wear pants and a wedding band.

John Kissinger [01/07/2016 8:47 PM]
Article XI of the EUB Confession of Faith, now part of the United Methodist Book of Discipline (para. 62), includes the following statement:

“Entire sanctification is a state of perfect love, righteousness and true holiness which every regenerate believer may obtain by being delivered from the power of sin, by loving God with all the heart, soul, mind and strength, and by loving one’s neighbor as one’s self. Through faith in Jesus Christ this gracious gift may be received in this life both gradually and instantaneously, and should be sought earnestly by every child of God.” http://ucmpage.org/sgca/wesley01.htm

Lloyd A Sanders Jr. [01/07/2016 8:51 PM]
Available to all believers

Vince Oblak II [01/07/2016 9:04 PM]
All

Tim Anderson [01/07/2016 9:10 PM]
Jesus is my wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption. A 4 fold blessing. I will not try to establish my own. v. 30

From 1 Cor. 1: 26 For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; 27 but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, 28 and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, 29 so that no man may boast before God. 30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, 31 so that, just as it is written, “LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD.” (NASB)

Timothy D McCune [01/07/2016 11:43 PM]
Not all speak in tongues though, are they saved?

Donna Dean [01/08/2016 2:37 AM]
Tongues is a gift to everyone who believes

There is a difference between the evidence at Holy Spirit Baptism as in the book of Acts in chapter 2, 10:46, 19:6 And the gift in 1 Corinthians.

That being said we are told to [covet] earnestly the best gifts 1 Cor 12:31, come behind in no gift 1 Corinthians 1:7, also see (1 Corinthians 14:1 & 12).

Absolutely, but do all exercise the faith to receive them? Every person has muscles, but does everyone develop and use them.

Initial evidence of speaking in tongues is only for the baptized with the Holy Spirit. Baptism with the Holy Spirit is only for the saved and consecutive clean heart. Holy Spirit does not abide in sinful hearts…

29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues[d]? Do all interpret? 31 Now eagerly

Speak in tongues is here clearly listed by Paul as part of the gifts of the Spirit. Bapticostal theology does not differentiate between the initial evidence and the gift of speaking in tongues #majorfail

I don’t care about Bapticostal theology, whatever that means. It’s the same Greek words as Acts 2 (inflected for grammar.)

Link Hudson If this glossolalia able to bring healing and deliverance, which is a form of the prophecy saying your infirmities to be taken away or lightening supernaturally. Let’s it be done in the name of Jesus.

‘Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of hands by the elders. Meditate on these things. Give yourself completely to them, that your progress may be known to everyone.’ – 1 Timothy 4:14-15
‘Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God, which is in you by the laying on of my hands.’ – 2 Timothy 1:6

Brethren do need the anointing of the Holy Spirit by laying on of hands in order to speak in tongues. Some spoke in tongues when they invited Jesus into their life. It is all about the infill of the Holy Spirit.
