Aren’t we lying if we say we are without sin?

Roger David [10/02/2015 3:27 PM]
Only if you aren’t without sin.

Aren’t we lying if we say we have sin(present tense) if we have confessed it all and repented and Jesus has cleansed us from all unrighteousness?

Charles Page [10/02/2015 3:45 PM]
aren’t we lying if we say we are without sin? what does the Bible say?

Levi Allen Goff [10/02/2015 3:46 PM]
Charles (edited* lol)how come you left Church of God? Church of God is the first denomination as far as I know that stood up for holiness.
They introduced a concept into Christianity that says “It is possible to live holy,” and for 10 years committed to faith in that concept before they received their portion of the out pouring of the Holy Spirit. We are cleansed by the blood, we can live Holy life’s if we commit ourselves to it.

Jesus said multiple times to “Sin no more.”

Paul also wrote that “Without Holiness we cannot see God.”

Is this why you left?

Roger David [10/02/2015 3:47 PM]
I’m not sure why so many want to lay claim to “I have sin in my life” rather than “I consider myself dead to sin” or “The power of sin has been broken over me and through Jesus Christ I can live in habitual obedience to Him” What ever happened to “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.
Suddenly Christ’s sacrifice wasn’t strong enough to free us from the power of sin?

After all the scripture does state that he who sins is of their father the devil.

Roger David [10/02/2015 3:51 PM]
1John 1 5This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

Thank God that we can talk about sin in our life in the past tense..and do not have to talk about it in the present tense.

Roger David [10/02/2015 3:52 PM]
1John 3 4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin. 6 No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. 7 Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; 8 the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. 9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.

Timothy Carter [10/02/2015 3:55 PM]
You might be lying if you say you’re without sin. but not everybody is a sinner. the people who have truly accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior are no longer sinners. If you will accept him as your Savior then you will no longer be a sinner Charles page. I am NOT trying to call you a sinner I am responding to the fact that you called your self a sinner.

Roger David [10/02/2015 3:56 PM]
<---Saint...and not one of the those sinning kind of saints either.

Roger David [10/02/2015 4:03 PM]
I know the Calvinists and some others love to lay claim to being “sinners saved by grace” but Grace is that which teaches us to live upright(rightouesss) in this present age. Not to continue sinning every day in word, thought and deed.

Titus 11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

seems that CoG fail to believe their own declaration of faith. they fail to make the distinction between new birth and sanctification/holiness and thus blend the two into one work as in #solafide #finishedwork like the Baptist they believe in a syncretic salvation determined by a decision and by that decision one is born again and sanctified (CoG Declaration does not teach that) Today most CoG give lip service to sanctification. Do ministers even report sanctifications today?

Roger David [10/02/2015 4:18 PM]
I am not and have never been a part of the CoG denomination. So help remove my ignorance. How does one report a sanctifcation?

Levi Allen Goff [10/02/2015 4:23 PM]
“I am sanctified!” (I’d assume) That is work done by man’s willingness to submit to God’s cleansing and setting them apart. But I have no idea how you woul d report it. Perhaps on a certificate?? That wouldn’t authenticate a real sanctified person though… Only God can do that.

Timothy Carter [10/02/2015 4:25 PM]
Grace is the power to live without sin. It is biblically and the logically impossible to be “A Sinner Saved By Grace. ” this is a lie straight out of the mouth of Satan himself. Martin Luther was probably communion with Satan and repeated the words just as he heard Satan say them. that prejudiced so called Minister Martin Luther has now deceived millions of people making them believe that they can live in both worlds the world of their father the devil and the Father God. Bible is very clear not to be deceived by the doctrine of the devil. this is the doctrine of the devil is telling you that you are okay to belong to Satan and continue to say you belong to God. Sin is to live in direct disobedience to God. To be a center is to reject the known and revealed will of God. to except God has your father or to become a Christian as some say we are to submit our/ yourselves to God’s will. Salvation is a lifelong process of submitting our will to His. However there is something that changes at the very moment that we repent and we say to him at that first time and say such as “Jesus I want you to forgive me I am sorry.” at this moment in salvation in the spirit realm our spirit man is born. I know that John Calvin tells a lie about this he says that our spirit man wakes up but he’s a liar. Paul tells us that the spirit man is born. The spirit man is born. why John Calvin wants to call the Apostle Paul a liar I can never understand. nevertheless the Word of God says the spirit man is born Paul continues to tell us that we are now new creatures. And that we must grow and mature in the Lord. Paul tells us that we are not the same as we were but that God sees the righteousness of his son when he looks at us.I various places throughout the Bible we are told that when God looks at a Christian he does not see the scene of the Christian but he sees Christ. he sees the blood that has been applied. for we have been counted righteous. we have been justified in Christ. just as we see in Romans chapter 6 because he died our old man died and in him we die and in that burial we are united with him that in grafting took place we became united with him as one plant we were married with him in the tomb. so that we are a new creature in him we live we do not live without him. as he has risen by his power we have also risen. it is by him that we now have new life. where are old man has died. no where is that sin which used to reign over us? Christ nailed it to the cross we see this in Colossians. coming back to Romans chapter 6. Paul is using this as the analogy of crucifying the flesh daily that crucifying is showing us that the flesh has not yet died. The sin that was nailed to the cross. Christ himself nailed it to the cross and it no longer belongs to you it no longer belongs to me because Christ Himself has removed it. God the Father has removed it as far as the east is from the west that’s what the Bible tells us. Paul tells us that what we are struggling with is not our sin but our flesh. our flesh is being crucified daily. we must crucify our flesh daily. is that old sinful desire that old desire that is addicted to sin that is what we must struggle against. we are not sinners. We are children of God who used to sin. James chapter 4 tells us that when a man commits then it’s because he is let away by his own desire. this is what we must crucify our own desires. we are not sinners we are on disciplined people

Charles Page [10/02/2015 4:28 PM]
agree (didn’t read the long worded comment – it needs paragraphs) Martin Luther is the culprit

Roger David [10/02/2015 4:33 PM]
Augustine is the culprit…Luther just built on the Gnostic teachings and taught we couldn’t be free of sin until we died and were glorified.

Timothy Carter [10/02/2015 4:34 PM]
Charles I’m on my phone. it does need paragraphs. but that’s hard to do on my phone 🙂

Timothy Carter [10/02/2015 4:35 PM]
I usually make those spaces but I got excited this time and forgot 🙂

Charles Page [10/02/2015 4:35 PM]
Augustine invented baptismal regeneration Luther invented decisional regeneration.

Charles Page [10/02/2015 4:36 PM]
I rarely read long comments…dare say most don’t…unless they are real good friends (sympathy)

Charles Page [10/02/2015 4:38 PM]
No, Luther is the real culprit … few even understand Augustine. Eastern Orthodoxy lead the front lines against Augustine.

Roger David [10/02/2015 4:45 PM]
Charles Page are you without sin?

Jeff Shenk [10/02/2015 4:46 PM]
My answer is Yes!

Charles Page [10/02/2015 4:46 PM]
no, but I am habitually obedient!

Roger David [10/02/2015 4:47 PM]
So you are a habitually obedient sinner?

Charles Page [10/02/2015 4:49 PM]
saved by grace! You want me to be different?

You can be born again and not habitually obedient
