HOLY SPIRIT UPON RECEIVED BY HOLY SPIRIT WITHIN – Ray E Horton

When Holy Spirit pours out in our midst, we have receptors, the Holy Spirit within. The Lord spoke that to my heart during our anointed worship service this morning at Lake Erie Church.

As I meditated on that later in the day, I could see it clearly. Let me expand on this understanding:

It’s the difference between the Spirit WITHIN, received at the new birth, and Spirit UPON, who comes to regularly fill us, starting with our Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

It’s the difference between the Spirit WITHIN, received at the new birth, and Spirit UPON, who comes to regularly fill us

(I also see a third way the Holy Spirit comes, the Spirit WITH, which is how Old Testament fathers and prophets, who didn’t have Holy Spirit within – not available before the cross – experienced the Holy Spirit).

The believers in the upper room were already Born Again and had the Holy Spirit within, like a deep well. But, on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit also came upon them, like a river of living water pouring out to change the world.

That is why the disciples were told to wait for the promise of the Father before witnessing. They needed the supernatural power.

And, in Acts, we see that while the well never runs dry, they were often refilled with the Spirit upon for boldness and power to witness and do the works of Jesus.

Refreshed to Keep the River Flowing

It is no different with us today. We need that refreshing to keep the river overflowing its banks to those around us and to do the supernatural works of Jesus.

We are Born Again and receive Holy Spirit within us to develop Christian character, and then Holy Spirit upon us to fit us for Christian service.

Spirit within and Spirit upon: It is the same one and only Holy Spirit who manifests Himself in these different ways.
