In Deutoronomy 13 there are two following passages:
“If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes true, concerning which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the Lord your God is testing you to find out if you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. “You shall follow the Lord your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him. “But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has counseled rebellion against the Lord your God who brought you from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, to seduce you from the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from among you.” (Deu 13:1-5, NASB)
“If your brother, your mother’s son, or your son or daughter, or the wife you cherish, or your friend who is as your own soul, entice you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods’ (whom neither you nor your fathers have known, of the gods of the peoples who are around you, near you or far from you, from one end of the earth to the other end), you shall not yield to him or listen to him; and your eye shall not pity him, nor shall you spare or conceal him. “But you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. “So you shall stone him to death because he has sought to seduce you from the Lord your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and will never again do such a wicked thing among you.” (Deu 13:6-11, NASB)
Now, today, there are plenty of jews that lives under the Old Covenant, and they are not aware of the claim that God made a new Covenant (this is another question- how can you make a covenant with someone, without his presence.), So, anyone who comes to preach them about the Gospels, should encounter this "wall". Now I do not claim that it is impossible to convince someone to believe in the Gospels, rather my question is, if the NT is divine from God, and God knows about the wall he posed in front of anyone that will try to change the old covenant, then what mechanism God gave in the NT, that can penetrate this "wall". I mean, you can do as much as miracles as you want, but still you cannot penetrate this wall with only miracles.
Note that, the majority of the jews, did not witnessed Jesus, since many of the jews were in other countries. So that mechanism must go through messengers/apostles.
Also note that the answer cannot be taken from Deutoronomy 18:15
“The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him.” (Deu 18:15, NASB)
Because two reasons:
- Later it says
““You may say in your heart, ‘How will we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’ “When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.” (Deu 18:21-22, NASB)
I know that jesus gave a prophecy, but his prophecy is not considered "legal" according to Deu 18:21, because in order to be considered legal, it must be prophecised to the following days, and no to many years later, because in the meanwhile you need to know if this is a true prophet or a false prophet.
a prophet cannot give a prophecy that will fulfill in 40 years and then say "you will know if I am a true prophet only in 40 years from now" (in this case, he even died before the prophecy was fulfilled). Another reason is that you could claim that he copied his prophecy from the book of Daniel which gives the exact date of the destruction.
- The second reason that Deu 18:15 cannot be the answer, is that the question is more dealing with preaching to the jews after Jesus death.
