The painting that we have used to symbolize The Protestant Mind is Thomas Cole's The Pilgrim of the Cross at the End of His Journey. It is part of Cole's series on the Cross and the World. Cole founded the Hudson River movement. He is a great example of an American Protestant artist who sought to embody in the Cross and the World the notion of pilgrimage that goes back to folks like John Bunyan.
