When was the last time your deacons were truly servant leaders versus church power brokers?

Why would anyone do a foot washing service?

Troy Day, I don’t understand: “it’s in the Bible” is not a hermeneutic.

Carrying a Roman soldier’s armour for a mile, tithing mint and cummin, anointing someone with frankincense, and actually carried a cross are all in the Bible also.

Why would anyone do a foot washing service? No one should do a foot washing service. It’s anachronistic, weird, and mostly just self-congratulatory (if not self-righteous). It’s not a sacrament, it has no functional purpose, it’s not suggested or seen in any NT churches.

Sorry, that’s a little long, but I really don’t understand the thinking here. Esp from a Pentecostal standpoint…

Jesus washed his disciples feet and commanding His disciples to do as he did – Whats so hard to understand?

Troy Day, interesting. It seems odd to transfer something with a lot of cultural meaning over to something that has zero cultural meaning.

Feels like it’s missing the point. And I say this as someone who trends literal in my interpretation.

Everyone washed their feet or had their feet washed after a day of sandals in dirt. It wasn’t symbolic. Jesus’ point was to serve one another in the same way servants wash feet.

And this doesn’t seem to be a consistent hermeneutic. Jesus also told his disciples not to take a wallet, to travel with a sword, and not take more than two cloaks. Sometimes I think the point is the point. I don’t have a sword or a gun. I’ve never actually knocked the dust of a town off my feet.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t wash feet if that’s your conviction. I am saying Jesus never commanded us to do symbolic actions, they were always functional in their setting.

That is a difficult question and if it was the only question to get one past the gate of heaven, most of us would be locked out…
I cannot imagine a CEO going early to the office so that he can open.the gate for the gatekeeper..
In foot washing the LordJesus set too high a standard that most ministers cannot meet..
Foot washing is not sth you see in many churches nowadays. ..
I had my feet washed five years back in a certain church as part of the service…since then I just wash my feet or I wash my wife’s feet..

A few months. But we still do have them. Our church does. I don’t think all our churches of God still have them. Not sure. But we do occasionally.

Ok I’ll tell you this one as it will surely bring honor to Christ and glory to his name.

I found a toy trumpet. So I figured it would make a great “prop” I went to a good spot for people and accustics blew it a few times and preached when the last trumpet sounds. Jesus is coming and everyman will be held accountable for their sins. This guy on meth freaks out throws his needle to the ground says I’m never going to get high again gets on his knees and starts praying to Jesus to save him.
The next day he’s in the same spot almost naked. But sober so I sat down to read some Bible with him. When I hugged him the fleas jumped on me but I was able to slap them and kill them. We read the Bible awhile and talked. His feet you can see were in awful condition. I poured some water on them to wash them but it hurt him real bad. I had to stop. We sang a gospel song we both knew. And I had to leave. He said he had been on that street 3 years. But that was the last I saw of him.
Who knows if maybe he went home to his family or got some help. But I believe God spared his life. I certainly felt the spirit when he was singing . Probably a preachers kid lost and far from home. Sometimes it happens that way God touches them and they disappear?

Joe Absher touching story. We will just have to hop and pray God changed his life. And if living , he found a good home. But otherwise God really changed his life. And he is in a great home. Love how you reach out to the homeless. Makes me ashamed of my life. How I could have done more.

In the OT angels came amidst men in physical form and ministered…then vanished…
Tongue in cheek(or the other way round) are you ….an angelos?
