In The Devil and Father Amorth trailer, The Exorcist director William Friedkin dives into the world of real-life exorcisms in a documentary following the exploits of the Vatican’s exorcist, Father Amorth.

We have a clergy today who no longer believe in the devil, in exorcism, in the exceptional Evil the devil can instill or even in the power that Jesus bestowed to cast out demons. —FATHER GABRIELE AMORTH. Sunday morning, May 1 of this year, was Father Amorth’s 91st birthday, but he had no plans to celebrate.

Years after he changed the landscape of American filmmaking with 1973’s THE EXORCIST, director, co-writer and legendary storyteller William Friedkin moves from fiction to fact with his new documentary, THE DEVIL AND FATHER AMORTH. What began as a brief conversation between Friedkin and Father Gabrielle

I have all of his books and Father Amorth personally trained most of the American exorcists via a lengthy training program in Rome.

All you have to do to cast out devils, is to be Holy Ghost filled, pray and fast, cast them out in Jesus’ name. Holy water doesn’t do it. A ? can’t cast out a ?. I have seen devils cast out of people.

A Christian can backslide and a Christian not filled with the Holy Ghost can be possessed if they don’t guard their spiritual house. I know of a man who had gotten saved but not yet filled with the Holy Ghost. He went up for prayer and he was possessed. A Christian with the Holy Ghost can be oppressed and depressed.

A Christian can’t be possessed, they can be oppressed by the enemy, but not possessed unless they backslide to the point of rejecting Christ.

I have personally known dozens of Christians who required deliverance ministry and know dozens of full-time deliverance ministers who minister primarily to Christians. Many people in parts of Italy come to a priest on a weekly basis for exorcism rather than trying to access mental health services which are typically not available to them. The Catholic exorcists in America typically work as a team that includes mental health professionals. I often check to see if persons praying for deliverance are on psychotropic medications and are actually taking them. Many persons appear to have major features of demonization if not on their medications. I truly believe that Christians can have demons but am cautious as to how deliverance is done if a person is not openly manifesting a demonic presence.

what would you say to a repeating phenomenon of demonized people coming to the church but the Holy Ghost arrest them and slain them before they ever enter the door – have you witnessed such?

A lot of folks think casting out devil’s is like watching the Exorcist. Far from it and no priest is going to deliver you. Any Spirit filled man or woman can cast out devil’s. If you have to every week to get a devil out, 1:You are not saved and you better get saved and 2: You are going to the wrong place to get delivered. 3: STAY away from evil places, don’t let things into your home that opens the door to evil.

I don’t believe Christians have demons. But in Ephesians 6:12. Says For we wrestle not against flesh and blood , but against principalities , against powers , against the rulers of the darkness of this world.
Against spiritual wickedness in high places. ( I believe we fight against it. Satan wants us to do his dirty work. But we fight against it that why it says under that verse) wherefore take unto you the whole armour Of God , that you may be able to withstand in the evil days , and having done all to stand. Stand. (You know all the rest of the Scriptures. But I do like verses 17–18.) I can understand where the devil is in constant battle with us trying to get us to fall but I believe it was in verse 18. Where it talked about praying in the Holy Ghost. And another thing. The Bible says bitter water and sweet water doesn’t come from the same fountain. I feel so little writing this to you because you know all this and more. I just about imagine you was saying that differently , than I thought it was. Because you are to grounded in the Word.

Exactly. The devil will attack a Spirit filled Christian from the outside by sickness and such. He can attack through depression of the mind but possession can not be a place filled with the Spirit. I forget what book but the Bible states that when a Spirit has gone out of a man, it seems dry places, and if it finds none, it will return to the house that is empty, not filled with the Holy Ghost, and abide bringing more and the state of that man will be worse than the first.
