Beloved “try the spirits.” There are many spirits we do not want to have anything to do with. There is our own spirit; the flesh and the devil. There are many spirits contending, and many times we let our own spirit rule and make ourselves think it is God; the same, with the flesh and the devil.

There is no passage within New Testament scripture that indicates that the Messiah lay His hands upon any demon-possessed person. Wherever Jesus went in ministry, He was always in the continual process of “giving” out to others and not “receiving.” Many times Jesus lay His hands upon the sick to heal, but never upon the demon-possessed.

In Scripture, it was the spoken “Word” that delivered those oppressed, and caused Satan to shudder with fear (see the before and after difference in the Gadarene demonic Luke 8:26-36). One of the very important reasons for this, is because of the transference of “spirits” (Numbers 14:24; I King 22:21; Ephesians 2:2; 1 Tim 4:1; 1 John 4:1; 1 John 4:3; Ephesians 5:19; 2 Cor 6:17, Col. 2:21, etc.) (or in contrast the “Holy Spirit’s power” as in Matthew 9:21).

“The Occult Version of Laying on of Hands

  • Did you know that cults also lay hands on people to transfer power/demons? Yes, it is true. This is an old practice, not just something new. Hinduism teaches the laying on of hands to receive the ‘power’. Do you realize that there is a lot of demon swapping going on in the ‘churches’ today? I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
  • Shaktipat 1 – (Skt. “descent of power”) – A form of spiritual transmission where a guru serves as a channel for the descent of divine grace. This spiritual baptism, typically involving the laying on of hands, awakens the dormant kundalini within a disciple to initiate or accelerate the process of liberation. Can also refer to the direct descent of grace, without intermediation by a guru.
  • Never ever lay your hands on someone you know is demon possesed, and never ever let them lay their hands on you. They always want to put their hands on people and touch other people’s hands. They are demonic and they are possesed and they transfer demonic powers to you that way.
  • Now if they say they want to be delivered do not lay hands on them because what they have must come out just as the demonic legions came out when Jesus delivered and they ran into the pigs. Do not touch or knowingly lay your hands on demon-possesed people.

When Demon-Inspired Believers Lay Hands On You

You’ve probably fallen victim to malicious gossip through the lips of another Christian. But physical assault gives a literal meaning to wrestling principalities and powers, rulers of the darkness of this age, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Eph. 6:12). Indeed, when a demon physically attacks you through a believer, a wrestling match with the flesh and blood that’s hosting the foul spirit can ensue.

If they let me I do. Isn’t that part of the doctrine of laying on of hands? I’m trying to pray the anointing on the person’s soul where they live. Where they make decisions. For God to break the chains and influence and help them make a decision for Christ. For me it’s more personal. I love them I want them free. Jesus is that good.

I think the ‘lay hands on no man suddenly’ is about appointing overseers, deacons, etc., rather than about healing.

I have noticed that, I don’t know of a time Jesus laid hands on someone who had a demon, unless you could the woman who had a ‘spirit of infirmity’ in Luke 13.

The Bible never warns about demons transfering through the laying on of hands. If you know they do that in their rituals, then maybe you can abstain either their conscience’s sake or to prevent confusion.

I noticed not even a single verse in their list of verses in that article supported what they were saying. Many of the verses were about the existence of demons and principalities and such.

As a believer who lives abroad, I haven’t seen anyone get demonized through the laying on of hands as far as I know. Of course, there are demons in the US, too.

Do you pray to get the devil off people so they can make a decision for Christ? I never heard of people doing it. I’ll try anything. It is amazing to me how people sober up or come to their right mind. Jesus is that good.

With the Gerasene/Gadarene/Gergasene demoniac(s), Jesus just gave a command. In Matt 17, coming down from the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus rebuked the deaf and mute spirit that controlled the man’s son. In Philippi, Paul simply commanded the spirit of divination to leave the slave girl.

So laying hands on the possessed person is certainly not a requirement.

I wonder if Jesus pointed, because He said ‘but if I drive out demons with the finger of God’.

He laid hands on a woman who had a spirit of infirmity, but I am not sure that is the same thing as being demonized.

Most of what western cultures do with their demonology is not biblical and is uncalled for.

First only Spirit filled believers should even attempt to
Second laying hands on Link Hudson covered very well.

History gives accounts of men such as Smith Wigglesworth would not only just speak to them but would give deliverence commands from across the field.

    It is not us.
It is The Spirit within us.

Pentecostals and Charismatics lay their hands on people for a lot of things there is no scripture for. Someone wants free from alcohol? A couple is having marital problems? Pentecostals will lay hands on people for such things. In the Bible, I see the laying on of hands for healing and for appointing or separating people for ministry…. oh yeah, and to throw people into jail.

Wouldn’t being deliver from alcohol be called a disease and praying for the healing of a marriage be healing. There are more than just physical sicknesses. There are emotional and financial sicknesses. If you are not well you are sick. I can see the laying on of hands. It is your perception of the conditions whether they are sick. They do not have to physically hurt or have fever to be sick. Just look at mental health.

What is an ’emotional demon’ as you define it? Is it a demon that causes emotion, a demon that gets emotional, or a really bad emotion?

Demon that disturbs people’s emotions. It’s kind of a Biblical thing

Lay hands on during prayer as the Spirit leads.
Lay hands on in order to commission, equip, and empower for ministry; do it very slowly and cautiously again as the Spirit leads.

Only as the Spirit gives direction.

Would the Spirit direct laying of hands on demon possessed without any such precedent in the BIBLE?

I understand your question and agree with your point and direction. I am not convinced that the western church especially in America is ready for that step of faith and applied theology.

The Spirit directs into the things that pertain to the will and purpose of God.

God does work in spite of the weaknesses and faltering of His servants.

A question worth asking is, “is all that the Spirit of God desires for us and through us set forth by precedent in the Bible”?

      To play both sides,
The answer to the above question is biblically, No.

      John 21:25
And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
      And
      Acts 5:12
And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.
*We are not told what the signs and wonders were.

All acts of ministry and faith start some where with an single time.
Peter healing people passing by with his shadow,, it was started somewhere.
Paul and his clothes/aprons being sent out as tools to cast out evil spirits,, it started somewhere. Imagine that, devils expelled by a piece of cloth from the minister’s body.
We know that the lady with the issue of blood touched the hem of a garment of Jesus and was healed, but there were more – Matt 14:36,, look at what she started.

I say pray for direction from the Spirit and for grace and mercy incase we miss Him.

I have personally had it happen with laying on of hands and without the laying on of hands.
It went a lot better without laying on of the hands.
