In Romans 6:10, what does it mean that Christ “died to sin once”?

KJV Rom 6:10  For in that he died, he [Christ] died unto sin once:
but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

Hebrew 7:27 is shown as a cross reference in my bible: in the NIV it words it in a way that says 10. The death he died, he died to sin once for all, but the life he lives, he lives for God. Hebrews 7:27 niv Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.
