Why the dearth of scriptures in this discussion? I’d like to believe that Cornelius was saved before Peter preached to him, but the scriptures appear to refute it: Luke wrote, “He [Cornelius] told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house and saying, ‘Send to Joppa and bring Simon, who is called Peter; he will give you a message by which you and your entire household will be saved'” (Act 11:13-14 NRS). Until you can make this clear statement fit your theology, I must consider your theology suspect. Sorry.

He was a God-fearer

was the discussion on Cornelius authored by Charles Page?

Charles Page [08/28/2015 12:20 PM]
I got the article from an old issue of the Evangel in which the author suggested that Cornelius was saved before Peter came to him.

Peter brought to him the “full” gospel.

it’s a good discussion worth the group’s attention

the church that said Peter was not saved till Peter preached to him was called “putrid” by the Evangel writer. That is a rather strong word from a man of deep persuasion!

I believe as Scripture states, that Cornelius was an upright man who lived righteously by the law, attended the Synagogue faithfully and gave alms to the poor. It does not say that he had faith in Christ before Peter preached.

faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the preaching of Peter. He was already regenerate by the Holy Spirit.

Timothy D McCune [08/28/2015 4:26 PM]
That was a good disscussion i beleive Cornelius was saved after Peter shared the gospel to him he and he household the Holy Spirit come on them and they were baptized.

John Kissinger [08/29/2015 12:37 AM]
Yes, I believe Cornelius was saved and Calvin was just wrong!

You can believe in God, but you still need to accept Jesus a Lord. Lots of “believers” are lost because of not repenting (Changing your mind)

Herman Spencer [08/29/2015 10:06 PM]
He was not how do you come up with such teaching study to show your self approved a work man able to know the truth

Herman Spencer [08/29/2015 10:10 PM]
He was not

You will never be saved till you confess you sins and ask Jesus into your heart you must be born again don’t come any way only as Jesus tell it

Herman Spencer [08/30/2015 3:49 AM]
Do not try to get around gods word it is the book of life just life by it

Charles Page [08/30/2015 9:44 AM]
is there a source for where Calvin believe either way on this? Probably not… People just make silly statements without resourcing. It is modern journalism.
