“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;..” – Ephesians 4:22 I went out this morning. 5am. At the break of day. The night is losing it’s strength and control. Its a good time to speak with the folks that been up all night. The dope man, the fiends, and the girls selling their body, getting their hustle on. It’s 7:30 now, they’re still out there. The young girls. Dope sick. Broke. Hurting. Afraid to go home. If they still have one. Truth is street ministry isn’t for everybody. Speaking with young girls that are vulnerable is dangerous. It’s Jesus, “the least of these,” true enough. Yes his grace is sufficient. And our God is a mighty fortress. But sometimes you have to walk away. A good run is better than a bad stand. I know it happens. I had to run some years ago. I was on the corner. Living right. Doing the right thing. A young girl strung out and hungry asked me for a light. I was speechless. I couldn’t think or talk. I said, “I gotta run.” And I did. Most carnal desires are good and healthy. But desires ought not to rule a man or drive him to destruction. That’s the deceitfulness of sin. Starts out like a lost lamb and turns into a hungry wolf. What was a koh lipe monkey playing for peanuts turns into King Kong banging your head on the sidewalk. The mental work and the love of God for souls and Bible knowledge and instruction in righteousness have to be real and present. God is very gracious to prepare us for adversity and testing, but if you don’t have conviction you’ll fall. You can get conviction if you pray and ask for it. Same for love, pray ask God. Same with wisdom. Pray and ask for wisdom. And don’t be stupid.
