I have read ‘demon possessed’ in Greek might be better translated as ‘demonized’, and that the oppressed/depressed dichotomy is not found in the Bible.

Can a Christian who has the Holy Spirit sin? Is it possible for a Christian to commit a sin? Sin is evil. How can evil dwell in the same person with the Holy Spirit?

Well I will give you a Bible. Verse 1John 3:9. Says Whosoever is born of God, does not commit sin; for his seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, bey he is born of God. ( I believe there’s many ways we fail God. But I do not believe you have to commit willful sin after being born again. I’m talking about where Jesus said thou shalt not. I don’t believe we have to do those things. I’m not one that believes out have to sin a little every day. The Bible says he that sins is of the devil. I’ll leave that to you to interpret what you thinks that means. I’m not saying I’m perfect. Because I fail God in many ways. I get a very about things sometimes. But I suppose to have it under control. But to many times I give my opinion , when I should’ve praying about it. So I believe every word the Bible says. So I really don’t know how to interpret that.

Evil can’t be in the same Person who has the Holy Spirit. That’s why I say when I say something to quick. I don’t know if it’s sin or not.God knows our hearts.

WELL thats ONE way to look at it of course BUT in all practicality when you are ministering at the altar and a demonized person approaches you in fast speed there’s not much else to do but cast them demons out and be done with this worldly mess in the church

Louise Cummings I thought that ‘he that is born of God’ verse might come up when I wrote that. But it sure does seem like from Paul’s writings that it is possible for those who are in the church to sin, since he teaches against it and corrects it when it happens.

So the question is, if someone sins, is he not a Christian? Has he had the Holy Spirit in him? Did the Holy Spirit leave when he sins?

If it is possible for a Christian to have sin in his heart, is it possible for a demon to be in a Christian? How can the Holy Spirit and sin be in the same vessel? That’s the same question people ask about demons.

If someone comes to church, says they got saved, seem to have gotten saved, gets baptized, maybe speaks in tongues and prophesies, etc. You see that person a year later, and he’s a raving demoniac getting delivered at an altar, was his salvation fake? Was he ever a Christian? Does he need to be rebaptized because there was no faith before he got baptized the first time?

I think if you still desire to sin after being saved , or filled with The Holy Spirit. Needs to examine their self to see if it was real. Some people probable thinks they have been born again, when they are really just under conviction. Bit the Bible talks about about some sowing on rocky ground and they can’t grow. Because of not enough good soil. So it withers when it comes up because of not much soil. The rocks chocked them out. The same with thorny ground. But some sowed on good ground. And it came up and grew. Some brought forth so 30 fold some 60 , and some 100 could. Depends on how much do really desire to please God. So they work it and plow it and fertilizer it naturally. The more you put into the work for God. The more you are going to get out of it. But the ones who planted on rocks and thorns. You spent no time getting the ground ready. Your harvest is going to die. It will never accomplish anything.i think when you make a start for God. You need to hold out. God let’s us make decisions. If we are not serious. You are leaving your self open for the enemy to come in. And sow the tares. That will chock out the real wheat. But is is not good to play around with God. Some can do more than others. Because they are more able. God expected what you can do and be faithful in doing it. And you will get your reward. I guess people get slow and lazy is how Satan sneaks in while we are not watching. And sin enters because of slow fullness. Pretty soon he is controlling again. Is the only way I know how to answer. Maybe you have a better way. I guess I wasn’t giving a very sound answer, when I left going to my grandchildren’s school program.

There is no fake salvation when a soul truly seeks
    Even for the backslidden soul
When aspirations for Christlike holiness cease to be dominant in your life and thinking, backsliding is there.

A Christian can have a demon? I think the answer is no, but can be influenced and oppressed by it. At the same time Jesus said that “deliverance” was the “bread of the children” (Mt 15:21-28) but also that was before the Christian Era with the Holy Spirit living in the believers.

Gerardo de Dominicis Just like Link Hudson already clearly explained influenced and oppressed are NOT Biblical terms We dont see them in the BIBLE – the Bible says demonized without importing any of the ugly forms of the anglo-saxon format possession. Lets take it from there – denominzation

look up the etymology of Old French possesser, from Latin possess- ‘occupied, held,’ from the verb possidere, from potis ‘able, capable’ + sedere ‘sit.’ or do you need a Link?

Troy Day so then the answer would be “yes”. To deny any demonic influence over the children of God means to be blind to the reality.

We tend to look at this question from a Western philosophical perspective. Ask a Christian from SE Asia or other places which culturally recognize spiritual activity and they will argue that demons can still at times exert influence in strong ways even after someone comes to faith.
